Welcome Freshies and Transferees!
Welcome back to all continuing students!

Today marks the first day of classes for the first semester of AY. 2024-2025.
We are back to ignite our goals; and gain, share, and discover our potentials as we again prepare and develop our intellectual capabilities to a greater step.

So, start strong, build a routine and create ripples of positivity as we learn, work, teach and live each day of the semester.

Seminar on Climate Change:
Strategies for Monitoring, Adaptation, and Mitigation and its' Gendered Realities

Various topic were discussed concerning Climate Change hyped by energetic wellness followed by inspirational talk by Dr. Roscinto Ian C. Lumbres, BSU Vice President for Research and Extension. Climate Change and its' Gendered Impacts was tackled by For Josel M. Florentin, CF Forest Biological Sciences & Wood Science and Technology Department Chairman. Meanwhile, Engr. Kim Oliver R. Domondon, DOH-CAR Health Program Officer II talked about the Contributory Impacts of Transportation Industries to Climate Change where the morning program ended with an interactive forum with the latter resource speaker.

The afternoon talk was about the Tools and Techniques on Biomass Estimation and Monitoring discussed by For. Nova D. Doyog, CF Forest Resources Management Department Chairwoman. A video presentation created by forestry students on ground data collection for biomass estimation was also presented. Afterwards, For Jolly B. Aloda, DENR-CAR Environmental Management Specialist II presented the Role of DENR Programs in Climate Change Mitigation and Adaptation.

The seminar bare an interactive forum with Dr. Gerry M. Alfonso together with the rest of CF department chairmen, faculty and admin present inspiring the students as environmental agents enabling positive contribution to strategize monitoring, adaptation, and mitigation of alarming rapid climate change experienced in the region.//JCP

WELLBEING: College of Forestry promotes and supports mental health and well-being as they actively participated in the Mental Health and Well-being Advocacy Caravan held at the University gymnasium on April 15-18, 2024.

Started the gathering with spiritual worship songs and simultaneous topics shared on the words of God. The students then listened to a testimony of experiences of how the speaker was able to managed and overcome difficulties of his life during his college days leaving students lessons and self reflections such as having the courage to set their mental health as a priority and to be able to build foundation of friendship as they greatly help maintain wellbeing. The caravan would eventually end with some flash mob of dance exercises led by the College of Human Kinetics instructors.//JCP

SNEAK PEEK: FFS-COMELEC members are half way through the counting of votes. The announcement for the official result will be released tomorrow (April 13, 2024).

LOOK: For the future forestry student leadership of the College of Forestry, a Miting de Avance was held last April 5, 2024 at the Benguet Pine Hall. An avenue for the aspiring forestry student leaders to be part of the Future Foresters` Society (FFS) Officers for A.Y 2024-2025; Expressing their willingness to serve the student body and to be able to expound their platforms where they presented their future programs. The candidates also responded to queries regarding student concerns.

Two partylists have filed their candidacy: Sinag Partylist in leadership of Ms. Jerlyn Gomisa and Binnadang Partylist in leadership of Ms. Kyla Jane Quinto. Meanwhile, Mr. Clarence Gio Almoite is the FFS-COMELEC Chairman for this year's election.

The FFS election will be on April 12 from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM at the CF Lobby. ~Jannesse Pacio

BSU-College of Forestry placed 3rd in the Quiz Contest, 4th in Tree Disease Identification, 5th in both GIS and Seed Identification and 6th in Tree Measurement; 8th in the overall ranking out of 22 participating colleges and universities during the 14th National Forestry Olympiad held at the University of the Philippines Los Banos last February 25 to March 1. The university was represented by future foresters, Clarence Gio S. Almoite, Willyn D. Docogan, and Shientany San C. Roque, and Krishel Mae C. Dangbis as the observer with their main coaches, For. Josel M. Florentin, Dr. Marissa R. Parao and For. Gerryc P. Alfonso.

The National Forestry Olympiad was a biennial competition participated by colleges and universities offering BS Forestry all throughout the Philippines. This yearsโ€™ NFO was composed of 8 events as follows: (1) Forest Surveying, (2) Leaf Identification, (3) Seed Identification, (4) Tree Disease Identification, (5) Wood Identification, (6) Tree Measurement, (7) Quiz Contest, and the newly added event (8) Geographic Information System (GIS).

We congratulate and appreciate the effort, sacrifices and dedication of our students and their coaches to the success of this event.
