‼️TRASH TALK‼️

• DID YOU KNOW❔

One of the most common waste in our environment are plastics, and it can be seen everywhere especially in our school. Plastics are one of the most common yet harmful waste when disposed improperly in our environment. It can stay around for ages and produced some harmful chemicals, since most plastics are also made of chemicals that came from the production of planet-warming fuels such as gas, oil, and even coal.

Everything we consume will eventually produce waste.
And so, here are some tips on how to lessen our own consumption of plastic materials!

‼️TRASH TALK‼️

ARE YOU TIRED OF SEEING TRASH EVERYWHERE? LET'S RECYCLE THOSE!

🪴So what is recycling? According to Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), recycling is the "process of collecting and processing materials that would otherwise be thrown away as trash and turning them into new products."

🪴Recycling is more than just a response to the environmental crisis and has assumed a symbolic role in beginning to change the nature of western societies and the culture of consumerism. Indeed many environmentalists assume that there will be an inevitable shift from our "throwaway" society to a post-industrial "recycling" society of the future.

TRASH ISSUES is an online advocacy initiated by grade 12 STEM-Xylem students addressing Improper waste Management in La Castellana National High School - Senior High.

In this website, we provided pictures that shows Improper Waste Disposal as observed inside the campus. We also posted all necessary information to prevent the said issue. Above all, this website also contains photos about how recycling is practiced in our school.

People behind this advocacy can be found on the 'About Us' portion of the website.

This is proper waste segregation!🫶

Why should you do it?

• So that it reduces waste that reaches landfills and reduces pollution to air and water

• So that different processes- composting, recycling, incineration can be applied to different kinds of waste

• To achieve a clean and safe environment

• WE ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR OUR OWN WASTES

EYES HERE! 👀

Improper waste disposal is the disposal of waste in a way that has negative consequences for the environment. It is rampant in communities that are not properly aware about the ways on how to manage their waste, and the negative effects of this economic problem.

The following are the harmful effects of Improper Waste Management:

1.) Air pollution
Paper and plastics that are burned plays a massive role on this kind of effect in where, gases that are released to the atmosphere and contributed to the ozone layer which are harmful to humans.

2.) Water Contamination
Germs and chemicals can get in drinking water at the water's source or in the distribution system after the water has already been treated. Harmful germs and chemicals can get in the water from many sources, including: frtilizers, pesticides, or other chemicals that have been applied to land near the water.

3.) Soil contamination
Land pollution happens whenever waste ends up on soil or other land that people should process instead. Soil pollution causes a chain reaction. It alters soils' biodiversity, reduces soil organic matter and soils' capacity to act as a filter.

4.)Disease
Unprocessed waste is a huge breeding ground for major diseases. All kinds of diseases can use places like landfills; even contaminated waters can host all manners of horrible diseases. These diseases can affect animals, plants, and people alike—improperly processed waste is horrible for the health of all living

5.)Loss of Habitat
Every animal has a range of environments it can survive in. This is why you only see specific species in certain locations. However, waste contributes to global climate change, which changes the size of the habitats animals need to survive. A decreasing habitat size drives species like polar bears to extinction as they attempt migrations out of the areas.
