EARTH HOUR 2022

Yes-O Officers of DHSBNHS, together with the club's adviser, Ms. Marianne Severino, participated in this year’s Earth Program at the City Plaza. The said program was hosted by the Division of La Carlota City through the Student Government Council and other school organizations and in partnership with the Environment and Natural Resources Office (ENRMO), Sangguniang Kabataan, and Universal Robina Corporation (URC).

We are thankful for this opportunity to be able to witness and participate in the said event where everyone was with their lighted candles and smiles printed on their beautiful faces. One of the goals of this effort was to demonstrate our commitment to and responsibility for conserving Mother Nature. Only an hour is needed, but it is an hour sacrificed for the greater good.

Congratulations to the officers and members of the S.Y. 2021-2022 YES-O Club who have successfully achieved a significant academic milestone in this year's 7th moving up ceremony of Doña Hortencia Salas Benedicto National High School-Junior High School. We are so proud of you all. Good luck with your next journey in senior high school. It is a new environment and challenge to tackle, but you can do it and become victorious at the end of the battle. We believe in you.

But before we bid our goodbyes, the officers of this school organization would like to express our heartfelt gratitude and genuine appreciation to all of the club's members, their parents, our page's followers, and the extremely dedicated teaching staff of our beloved alma mater's Science Department, who have been reliable and patient with whatever we are doing. Most importantly, we would like to acknowledge and thank our very gorgeous club adviser, Ms. Marianne Severino. She has always been so supportive and generous since the beginning of our joining this club. Her guidance has helped us improve not only our club, but our performance as leaders of this organization as well. Honestly, words aren't enough to express how thankful we are for all you have done and all the assistance you have given us. Thank you, Ma'am Sev!!!

Once again, "madamo guid nga SALAMAT sa tanan."

Thank you for the best people, moments, and memories we could ever experience, even in this time of learning and our last high school years.

Home gardening is indeed relaxing, and a person can gain plenty of benefits from it. Furthermore, it is a safer and more cost-effective method of planting. Vegetables purchased in supermarkets are sometimes pricey and cultivated with inorganic fertilizers that may be harmful to customers' health. You should consider starting an eco-friendly vegetable garden at home if you want to eat nutritious and healthy meals every day without having to worry about running out of money. In the long run, you'll surely love being able to pick fresh vegetables in your backyard.

The Youth for Environment in School Organization, or YES-O, of Doña Hortencia Salas Benedicto National High School, participated in the activity of the "Oh My Gulay sa Bahay" project pursuant to the DepEd Memo No. 95 s., 2018, in line with the Makakalikasan Core Values through vegetable planting and container gardening in backyards.

Gardening has long been promoted as a soothing recreational activity with a lot of beneficial attributes. It can also be a family-inclusive hobby to embrace during these times of crisis when many individuals and students are working and learning at home.

What is home gardening? Home gardening is the act of turning outside space into a productive and functional area for the family. It involves growing fruit, vegetables, and herbs for personal consumption, as well as creating aesthetics and diversity for bird and insect life with attractive flower beds. Home gardening requires gardening knowledge, ongoing nurturing of plants, maintenance skills, and consistent improvement (https://www.activif.com/what-is-home-backyard-gardening-importance-benefits/).

This activity aims to develop active participation from everyone and to sustain the implementation of the Gulayan sa Paaralan program in public elementary and secondary schools nationwide by cultivating their gardens at home. Moreover, it also aims to strengthen and support people at home in their efforts to develop and transform their home gardens amidst the pandemic. We are very delighted and honored to welcome each one of you. Fun and exciting activities await you all amidst this pandemic. Nature is beautiful, but sometimes it can be dangerous too, especially when earthquakes occur. It's critical to always heed local authorities' advice and take the precautionary measures that we've been taught. We may not precisely know when an emergency will happen, but it’s always better to be safe than sorry.

On November 2, 2021, an earthquake jolted some areas in Negros Occidental at 11:58 PM. According to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS-DOST), a magnitude 4.1 earthquake was recorded with the epicenter 18 km deep in Sipalay City, Negros Occidental. The reported intensities are Intensity III for Iloilo City and the instrumental intensities are: Intensity V for Sipalay City, Negros Occidental; Intensity III for Bago City, Negros Occidental; and Intensity II for La Carlota City, Negros Occidental.

During an earthquake, always remember to duck, cover, and hold in order to be safe and reduce any possible injuries. Do not panic, be prepared and always protect yourself.

The pandemic may have affected us in more ways than one, but it wouldn't stop us from pursuing our goal of protecting and taking care of the environment. With that, as we continue with the school year 2021-2022, it’s our honor to introduce a new set of officers of the Doña Hortencia Salas Benedicto National High School's Youth for Environment in School Organization (YES-O Club).
