ALS 🤝🏼 UWC Cultural Exchange: Transcending Borders

DAY 5: The weeklong Cultural Exchange ends with a bang! After coming down from the Guintubdan Pavillon in the early morning, LPC delegates visit the Doña Hortencia Salas Benedicto National High School - Senior High campus. A short tour is led by HUMSS students, followed by baking in the Bread and Pastries Production laboratory, where the delegates try their hand at producing cupcakes and butterscotch.

As a final hurrah, the delegates and ALS family share one last boodle fight before closing off the program.

It has been a sugarcane-sweet week to remember. Until next time, Li Po Chun UWC - Hong Kong! Salamat. Palangga kamo namon.

ALS 🤝🏼 UWC Cultural Exchange: Transcending Borders

DAY 4: After overnighting at Guintubdan, Li Po Chun delegates guided by ALS personnel take an early trek to the Viewing Deck overlooking the Twin Falls. The group also pass by the fresh Guintubdan Spring and Busay Dalupya.

In the afternoon well into the evening, the Cultural Exchange program is taken underway. Guests share their culture, traditions and beliefs such the Haka chant, Mongolian dance, Balkan jig and many more.

To conclude the day, participants engage in a Solidarity Night filled with karaoke and dances.

ALS 🤝🏼UWC Cultural Exchange: Transcending Borders

DAY 3: Today’s adopted community is Sitio Nailab, Brgy. Araal where the UWC delegates and ALS family deliver a four-part treat for the locals. The first activity involves tree planting. Next, in partnership with Chinese International School- Hongkong, the guests donate books for the community learners. They also render work in repairing the community learning center by building bamboo walls around the structure. For their final activity, they join efforts with the Nailab residents in creating the community’s valued local product, Sinamak.

Even with the busy, action-packed day, the delegates also mingle with the locals by playing basketball and stilts or “kadang”. Work and fun go hand in hand.

DAY 2: Li Po Chun UWC delegates head to Brgy. Haguimit along with ALS teachers and learners. Today's activity focuses on carpentry and woodwork in which the delegates try their hand at constructing a Type 1 community learning center.

The site will become a safe space for ALS out-of-school youths and adults in the community.

ALS 🤝 UWC Cultural Exchange: Transcending Borders

DAY 1: The Cultural Exchange between ALS - La Carlota City and Li Po Chun United World College - Hong Kong officially kicks off. 21 delegates composed of 19 students and 2 teachers of different nationalities begin their week-long immersion and community service.

The guests are given a Mangkasanon welcome in the Deped Division Office, followed by paint work in the ALS Pilot Center. This cultural immersion program is meant to promote diversity and solidarity across borders.

ALS SMAW IMMERSION TRIP

Grade 12 learners of TVL-Industrial Arts visit the MIRAI Empower Foundation Shipyard for a work immersion field trip in Silay, Negros Occidental. Accommodated by Mr. Eric and Maria Jesusa Moldes, the learners tour the would-be passenger ship while testing their welding skills onsite. Such trip is a fundamental part of the learners’ work immersion program.
