The Ecumenical Prayer Service for the 18th Radiologic Technology Pinning Ceremony brought together the fourth-year Bachelor of Science in Radiologic Technology students of Batch Sapientia Fortis, faculty members, administrators, parents, and guests at The Farm at Carpenter Hill, Koronadal City, June 30.

Attended by students, faculty members, parents, and guests, the service marked the beginning of the students' transition from the academic setting to clinical internship. It also provided an opportunity for prayer and reflection as they prepared to take on the responsibilities of future Radiologic Technologists.

In her opening remarks, Nanette P. Franco, MD, FPARM, MSHSM, FPCHA, reminded the students that the pinning ceremony marks not only an achievement but also the beginning of their responsibility as future Radiologic Technologists.

"Remember that this symbolizes not only achievement but also responsibilityβ€”to uphold the values of integrity, excellence, compassion, and service that define your profession," she stressed.

Delivering the keynote address, Abelardo L. Marva III, RRT, MAEd, LLB, PhDBA, encouraged the students to uphold the dignity and values of the Radiologic Technology profession as they begin their clinical internship.

"Dignity and sincerity and its service with compassion... because starting today, you'll become part of the ambassador of our profession," he said.

Marva also underscored the importance of earning trust and building meaningful relationships throughout their internship.

"May mga magtitiwala sa'yo dahil alam nila kung sino ka. Itong internship ninyo is the proper pathway to build your connection to growth in work, and the people you will work with during your hospital duty are the people who can create opportunities for you," he added.

He further encouraged the students to pursue their chosen profession with purpose and confidence.

"You must work with purpose. Hindi kayo nandito ngayon sa field ng RadTech kung hindi kayo dapat nanditoβ€”ito ang para sa inyo," he emphasized.

The program also highlighted the significance of the Radiologic Technology Pinning Ceremony, which symbolizes the students' transition from the classroom to the clinical setting as they begin their internship. More than a ceremonial emblem, the Alexian Radiologic Technology Pin serves as a symbol of professional identity, responsibility, and commitment to excellence, integrity, lifelong learning, and compassionate patient care.

The ceremony concluded with Batch Sapientia Fortis officially receiving their pins, signifying their readiness to embark on clinical internship and take a significant step toward becoming competent, compassionate, and ethical Registered Radiologic Technologists who will continue serving others the Alexian Way.

Back in the early to mid-1900s, shoe shopping was once considered a β€œscientific” experience. Stores used fluoroscopic X-ray machines like the ADRIAN Special to show whether shoes fit properly. Instead of guessing sizes, parents could actually see their child’s bones inside the shoe in real time.

Advertisements claimed that the machine could instantly reveal if the shoes were too short, too long, too narrow, or even poorly shaped. It was heavily promoted as modern, reliable, and safe, even boasting compliance with standards and earning well-known seals of approval. Radio commercials encouraged parents not to β€œbuy blindly,” but to rely on this advanced technology to ensure their child’s comfort and foot health.
But they were far from safe.

While it looked impressive and trustworthy, these machines exposed both children and store workers to repeated and uncontrolled radiation. At the time, people were unaware of the long-term risks, and the excitement around new technology made it easy to overlook potential harm.

Children would stand on the machine and watch their bones move inside their shoes, while employees operated the device all day, increasing their exposure even more.

By the late 1940s and 1950s, medical studies began to raise serious concerns about radiation dangers, leading to the eventual removal and banning of these machines.

What was once promoted as a breakthrough in shoe fitting became one of the most unusual and unsafe practices in the history of radiology.

The St. Alexius College (SAC) Open Field came alive with excitement as the college welcomed its newest students during Freshmen Day 2026. Carrying the theme, β€œMaking Waves, Chasing Dreams, and Reaching New Depths: Experience the Alexian Difference! The Alexian Way!”, the campus was transformed into a vibrant underwater world inspired by SpongeBob SquarePants. Colorful department and organization booths, decorated with creative DIY ocean-themed designs, created a lively and welcoming atmosphere as Batch 2026–2027 officially embarked on their journey as Alexians.

The program began with the course presentation segment, where the Governors of each academic department and the Presidents of the different student organizations introduced their respective programs and organizations. They shared what makes each department unique, the opportunities they offer, and the experiences that await students throughout their college journey. Various academic programs, including Pharmacy, Education, Aviation, and many others, introduced freshmen to the different career paths and opportunities available at St. Alexius College, giving them a better understanding of the college community before they explored the booths.

Following the presentations, a ribbon-cutting ceremony officially opened the department and organization booths, inviting freshmen to visit each display and interact with the different academic departments and student organizations. One of the event's highlights was the Radiologic Technology Department booth, which showcased a life-sized human skeleton, anatomical models, and educational presentations about the human body. Freshmen were also given a guided tour of the P111 RadTech Laboratory, where they explored radiology equipment used in medical imaging, learned how X-rays help doctors diagnose patients, and visited the department's darkroom to see how radiographic films are processed and developed. The tour offered students a closer look at the profession and sparked curiosity about the field of Radiologic Technology.

As freshmen explored the booths, they participated in interactive activities, educational games, and engaging displays prepared by the different departments and student organizations. They also had the opportunity to ask questions, meet new friends, collect giveaways, and discover the many opportunities available within the Alexian community. The creativity and dedication shown in every booth reflected the teamwork and school spirit that make St. Alexius College a welcoming place for its students.

More than just an orientation, Freshmen Day 2026 marked the beginning of a new chapter for every freshman. It was a day filled with discovery, laughter, meaningful experiences, and the start of lasting friendships. As the celebration came to an end, the newest Alexians left the SAC Open Field carrying not only giveaways and photographs but also unforgettable memories and a stronger sense of belonging. With confidence and excitement, they are now ready to make waves, chase their dreams, and reach new depths as they begin living the Alexian Way.
