KORONADAL CITY โ What began as an ordinary day of playing online games during the summer break turned into an unforgettable milestone for Il Nam O. Cho, a first-year Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology student, after learning that he ranked first in the Notre Dame of Marbel University Entrance Examination for Academic Year 2026-2027.
Cho admitted that he initially expected to qualify for a scholarship but never imagined he would placed first in the examination. "I was expecting to get at least a 50 percent scholarship, but I never expected to rank first." he shared.
He recalled discovering the result only after his former classmates repeatedly congratulated him in their group chat. Thinking the published list was arranged alphabetically, he was surprised to learn that it reflected the actual rankings.
According to Cho, his success stemmed from entering the examination with a clear goal of excelling rather than simply passing. "I took the exam with the mindset that I wanted to excel," he said, emphasizing that one's intention and determination can greatly influence performance.
Despite preparing for a research competition at the same time, Cho managed to balance his review by making the most of his available time.
He also credited his mother as his greatest inspiration, while his dream of building a successful future continues to motivate him to strive for excellence. Although he once aspired to become an engineer, his growing interest in the medical field eventually led him to pursue Medical Technology as his pre-medicine program.
To future NDMU entrance examinees, Cho encouraged them to take the examination with confidence and purpose. "If you want to become a scholar, take the exam with the mindset that you will become one," he advised.
As he begins his college journey, Cho has already set another ambitious goal for himselfโto graduate with Latin honors, with hopes of earning the University's highest academic distinction.
"Ang motivation ko is 'yong sarili kong future kasi gusto kong makita ang sarili ko na successful," Cho shared as he expressed his eagerness to continue aiming for success as he starts a new journey as an NDMU scholar.
