Digital literacy is more than knowing how to use technology. It is the ability to access, understand, evaluate, create, and share information responsibly in an increasingly connected world.
KIDAPAWAN CITY, Philippines | Central Mindanao Colleges (CMC), through the National Service Training Program (NSTP), conducted another session of Igniting Success on September 26, 2026, at With Love John, Kidapawan City, focusing on digital literacy, responsible technology use, information awareness, and effective participation in the digital environment.
The session featured Mr. Alfie R. Araojo, LPT, MAEd, as resource speaker, who emphasized the importance of developing digital competencies among students. His discussion positioned technology not merely as a tool for entertainment or convenience, but as a platform for learning, communication, productivity, creativity, and responsible community engagement.
Throughout the session, students were encouraged to become more critical and responsible users of digital platforms. The discussion highlighted the importance of verifying information before sharing, recognizing misleading or unreliable content, protecting personal information, practicing responsible online communication, and maintaining appropriate digital behavior.
The session also reinforced that digital literacy requires critical thinking. In an environment where information can be accessed and circulated within seconds, students need the ability to distinguish credible information from misinformation, examine sources carefully, and make informed decisions based on reliable evidence.
Beyond academic learning, the activity connected digital literacy with everyday life. Students were reminded that actions in digital spaces can have real consequences. Posts, comments, messages, and shared information contribute to a personโs digital presence and reflect oneโs judgment, values, and responsibility toward others.
The discussion further encouraged students to use technology with purpose: to support their studies, improve their skills, explore opportunities, communicate effectively, collaborate with others, and contribute positively to society.
As part of the Igniting Success initiative, the activity reflected NSTPโs continuing commitment to learning beyond the classroom. Digital literacy strengthens not only technical competence, but also critical thinking, communication, problem-solving, adaptability, and responsible participation in a rapidly changing digital environment.
The session also supported the formation of responsible digital citizens who understand that technology carries both opportunity and accountability. As future professionals, leaders, and community members, NSTP students were encouraged to use digital platforms not only for personal advancement, but also for meaningful service and positive social contribution.
The activity advances SDG 4: Quality Education by strengthening digital competencies and lifelong learning; SDG 9: Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure by promoting productive and responsible use of technology; and SDG 16: Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions by encouraging informed decision-making, ethical communication, and responsible participation in digital spaces.
Through Igniting Success, CMC continues to equip students with knowledge and skills that extend beyond the traditional classroom. Digital literacy enables learners not only to navigate technology, but to use it with judgment, responsibility, creativity, and purpose.
In a world where information is only a click away, digital literacy means knowing what to access, what to question, what to trust, what to share, and how to use technology responsibly.
Choose CMC, where students are empowered to learn, connect, innovate, and become responsible digital citizens prepared to make a meaningful difference in an increasingly connected world. ๐ฆ
