Certification and Oathtaking of Law Student Practitioners
These significant occasions mark defining milestones in the Law Student Practitioners' (LSPs) journey toward the legal profession. Having received their certification and taken their solemn oath, they formally embrace the responsibility entrusted to them—to serve with competence and integrity, uphold the dignity and rights of every client, and contribute meaningfully to the pursuit of justice, while learning in the process.
Undergoing the Clinical Legal Education Program (CLEP) to make them practice-ready, the LSPs are also given the invaluable opportunity to bring the law beyond the classroom and into the lives of those who need it most. Every consultation, case, and act of service remind them that the law is not merely a body of rules to be learned, but a powerful instrument for justice, compassion, and service to the community.
This year, 33 law students of the USM College of Law took their oath before the Executive Judge of Kidapawan City, Hon. Jose T. Tabosares, last August 7, 2026 using this revised LSP Oath/Affirmation based on the Revised Lawyer's Oath:
LAW STUDENT PRACTITIONER’S OATH/AFFIRMATION
I, ________, having been granted a certificate of law student practice by the Supreme Court under Rule 138-A of the Rules of Court, do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I accept the honor, privilege, duty, and responsibility of practicing law in the Philippines as an officer of the Court in the interest of our people.
I declare fealty to the Constitution of the Republic of the Philippines.
In doing so, I shall work towards promoting the rule of law and a regime of truth, justice, freedom, love, equality, and peace.
I shall conscientiously and courageously work for justice, as well as safeguard the rights and meaningful freedoms of all persons, identities and communities. I shall ensure greater and equitable access to justice. I shall do no falsehood nor shall I pervert the law to unjustly favor nor prejudice anyone. I shall faithfully discharge these duties and responsibilities to the best of my ability, with integrity, and utmost civility. I impose all these upon myself without mental reservation nor purpose of evasion.
