𝐏𝐈𝐓𝐂𝐇𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐂𝐎𝐌𝐏𝐄𝐓𝐈𝐓𝐈𝐎𝐍 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟓 | 𝐓𝐄𝐀𝐌 𝐀𝐆𝐑𝐈𝐒𝐎𝐑𝐓 𝐒𝐇𝐈𝐍𝐄𝐒

With only 𝘁𝗵𝗿𝗲𝗲 𝗱𝗮𝘆𝘀 to prepare, 𝘁𝗵𝗿𝗲𝗲 𝗠𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗘𝗻𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗦𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗼𝗿 𝗦𝘁𝘂𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 stepped into the contest carrying both pressure and determination. Their project, 𝘼𝙜𝙧𝙞𝙎𝙤𝙧𝙩: 𝘾𝙤𝙛𝙛𝙚𝙚 𝘽𝙚𝙖𝙣 𝙎𝙤𝙧𝙩𝙚𝙧, tested their skills in design, research, and presentation.

“It was really tough to fit everything into ten slides, plus rehearsals, academic workloads, and machine design,” one member shared. “At the end of the day, we were just happy not to go home empty-handed.” He added, showing gratitude and sportsmanship: “We were also amazed at how good the other teams were, with most of their presentations focused on applications and software.”

Despite competing against bigger teams from different fields, 𝗔𝗴𝗿𝗶𝗦𝗼𝗿𝘁 proved their 𝗴𝗿𝗶𝘁. They proudly brought home three awards:

Their win is not just recognition of 𝙝𝙖𝙧𝙙 𝙬𝙤𝙧𝙠, but also a reminder that 𝙩𝙚𝙖𝙢𝙬𝙤𝙧𝙠 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙥𝙚𝙧𝙨𝙞𝙨𝙩𝙚𝙣𝙘𝙚 can carry ideas far — even under the tightest deadlines and heaviest workloads.

Did you know? 🤔

𝗦𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗹𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗲𝗹 doesn’t rust the way ordinary steel does because of its 𝗰𝗵𝗿𝗼𝗺𝗶𝘂𝗺 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗻𝘁 — at least 𝟭𝟬.𝟱%. When exposed to air, chromium reacts with oxygen to form a 𝙩𝙝𝙞𝙣, 𝙞𝙣𝙫𝙞𝙨𝙞𝙗𝙡𝙚 𝙡𝙖𝙮𝙚𝙧 of 𝗰𝗵𝗿𝗼𝗺𝗶𝘂𝗺 𝗼𝘅𝗶𝗱𝗲. This protective “𝗽𝗮𝘀𝘀𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗳𝗶𝗹𝗺” prevents oxygen and moisture from reaching the underlying metal.

👉 That’s why stainless steel is widely used in 𝗯𝗿𝗶𝗱𝗴𝗲𝘀, 𝗯𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀, 𝗺𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗶𝗻𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘂𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀, and even your 𝗸𝗶𝘁𝗰𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝘂𝘁𝗲𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗹𝘀. Unlike ordinary steel that corrodes quickly, stainless steel stays shiny and strong for decades.

𝐃𝐢𝐝 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐤𝐧𝐨𝐰?🤔

The 𝗳𝗶𝗿𝘀𝘁 practical 𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗮𝗺 𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗲 was built by 𝗧𝗵𝗼𝗺𝗮𝘀 𝗡𝗲𝘄𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗻 in 𝟭𝟳𝟭𝟮. Known as the 𝙉𝙚𝙬𝙘𝙤𝙢𝙚𝙣 𝘼𝙩𝙢𝙤𝙨𝙥𝙝𝙚𝙧𝙞𝙘 𝙀𝙣𝙜𝙞𝙣𝙚, it was primarily designed to 𝙥𝙪𝙢𝙥 𝙬𝙖𝙩𝙚𝙧 𝙤𝙪𝙩 of 𝙛𝙡𝙤𝙤𝙙𝙚𝙙 𝙘𝙤𝙖𝙡 𝙢𝙞𝙣𝙚𝙨 — a huge problem during the 𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗹𝘆 𝟭𝟴𝘁𝗵 𝗰𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘂𝗿𝘆.

The machine worked by 𝗳𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮 𝗰𝘆𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗮𝗺, then spraying it with 𝗰𝗼𝗹𝗱 𝘄𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗼 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘀𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗮𝗺 and create a 𝘃𝗮𝗰𝘂𝘂𝗺. This vacuum pulled down a piston, moving a large beam connected to a pump.

👉 The engine was massive, so large it could 𝗯𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗹𝘆 𝗳𝗶𝘁 𝗶𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗱𝗲 𝗮 𝗯𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴, yet it only produced about 𝟱 𝗵𝗼𝗿𝘀𝗲𝗽𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿. Still, it was revolutionary — making mining more efficient and laying the foundation for 𝗝𝗮𝗺𝗲𝘀 𝗪𝗮𝘁𝘁’𝘀 later improvements, which powered the 𝗜𝗻𝗱𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗥𝗲𝘃𝗼𝗹𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻.
