ON “HINAY” MODE, BUT NEVER ON PAUSE: BUYAGAN ES GOES BEYOND THE CHALLENGE IN ACHIEVING A HEALTHY LEARNING INSTITUTION

Despite the challenges brought by the persistent monsoon rains, Buyagan Elementary School continues to move forward, because the pursuit of a Healthy Learning Institution (HLI) never takes a pause.

Anchored on the Healthy Learning Institutions–Oplan Kalusugan sa DepEd (HLI-OKD) Program, Buyagan ES conducted a School-Based In-Service Training (INSET) on HLI on August 14, 2026, focusing on strengthening the health skills, knowledge, and competencies of school personnel.

The INSET provided an opportunity for school personnel to deepen their awareness of health-related concerns and strengthen their capacity to contribute to a healthier, safer, and more supportive school environment. More than simply gaining knowledge, the activity emphasized the importance of translating learning into concrete health-promoting practices within the school community.

The school likewise strengthened its links with the community through the establishment of the School Governance Council (SGC). An initial consultation with the SGC members provided a meaningful avenue to discuss current health and safety issues and concerns affecting the school community, identify areas requiring collective attention, and explore opportunities for stakeholder collaboration.

Through this effort, Buyagan ES recognizes that achieving a Healthy Learning Institution requires more than internal capacity; it calls for shared responsibility, meaningful participation, and strong partnerships with the community.

Buyagan Elementary School conducted a meaningful Learning Action Cell (LAC) session on June 29, focusing on the ILAW Simplified Form in enhancing teachers’ preparation of the Daily Lesson Log (DLL). The session was graced by 𝗖𝗜𝗗 𝗖𝗵𝗶𝗲𝗳 𝗔𝗹𝗮𝗱𝗶𝗻 𝗠. 𝗗𝗼𝗯𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗼 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗣𝗦𝗗𝗦 Delarosa Delmas ,
whose presence and expertise greatly enriched the discussion.

The session began with a presentation of the ILAW Simplified Form by Ms. Esterlyn Khayog, who introduced its structure and purpose in simplifying DLL preparation. This was further elaborated by CID Chief Aladin M. Dobinto, who provided deeper insights and practical guidance on how teachers can effectively use the format to improve instructional planning.

The discussion helped clarify important aspects of lesson preparation, making the DLL process more organized, efficient, and teacher-friendly. It also encouraged active participation, allowing teachers to raise questions and seek clarification on key instructional concerns.

Among the issues clarified were the appropriate curriculum guide for Kindergarten and updates on the new grading system, which helped ensure alignment with current DepEd policies and standards.

Overall, the LAC session proved to be informative and empowering, equipping teachers with clearer direction in lesson preparation and classroom instruction. Buyagan Elementary School extends its sincere gratitude to CID Chief Aladin M. Dobinto and PSDS Delarosa Delmas for their invaluable support and commitment to continuous professional development.
