DUGAYAN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL, KAPALONG — Regional athletics standout Lendon Kier Suerte led hundreds of student-athletes in reciting the Oath of Sportsmanship today, August 21, officially opening the 2026 Langilan District Sports Meet at Dugayan Elementary School.

The two-day athletic competition, running from August 21 to 22, brings together student-athletes from across the district to showcase their athletic prowess while vying for slots in upcoming municipal and provincial meets.

Suerte, a proven Davao Regional Athletic Association (DAVRAA) qualifier, stood before the delegate delegations to administer the pledge. His selection as oath leader highlights his success on the regional stage, serving as a beacon of dedication for young athletes competing throughout the district. The pledge called on all participants to uphold the core values of camaraderie, discipline, and respect throughout the multi-sport tournament.

"Leading the oath is both an honor and a reminder that true athletic success is built on integrity and mutual respect," Suerte stated following the opening ceremonies.

Host venue Dugayan Elementary School has transformed its grounds to accommodate two days of high-stakes competition across track and field, ball games, and individual events. School heads and local sports officials welcomed delegations, coaches, and supporters during the festive kickoff program.

As action gets underway, officials expect the tournament to serve as a vital stepping stone for local talent aimed at higher-tier competitions, starting with the selection of the strongest contenders to represent the district moving forward.

Solidifying a unified commitment to student development and tribal heritage, the School Governance Council (SGC) and Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) convened for a landmark joint assembly on August 12, 2026.

The collaborative conference brought together educators, civic officers, and tribal leadership to align organizational goals and establish a shared vision for the upcoming academic year.

𝙋𝙤𝙬𝙚𝙧𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙎𝙘𝙝𝙤𝙤𝙡 𝙄𝙢𝙥𝙧𝙤𝙫𝙚𝙢𝙚𝙣𝙩 𝙋𝙡𝙖𝙣

School Head Marites L. Ponce spearheaded the gathering, emphasizing that sustainable institutional progress relies on a direct partnership among school management, parents, and community leaders.

Ponce explicitly highlighted this joint force as a key driver for executing the objectives detailed in the school’s School Improvement Plan (SIP).

With Ponce at the helm, the council is entering a phase set to be ever more active, proactive, and responsive to the evolving needs of the student body.

SGC Designated Focal Person Jemaima Fel Senia facilitated the session, guiding the synthesis of school governance strategies with community-led initiatives.

A core priority of the assembly was strengthening cultural preservation within the school system.

Tribal leader Maniguon Danilo Osod, present alongside members of the tribal council, reaffirmed the community's commitment to grounding education in indigenous identity.

To honor their Dibabawon blood and roots, the assembly unanimously agreed to maintain the strict observance of "IP Wednesday."

Under this policy, students and staff will wear traditional kinaraan attire weekly, fostering cultural pride and ancestral respect within the classroom.

The tour, which preceded the formal convocation assembly, saw the two administrators navigating the concrete corridors and physical facilities of the mountainous campus. As seen in a picture together, they paused to discuss school logistics, with Masaluon offering insights into the daily operational expectations and strategic direction of the institution.

A central theme of the orientation was ensuring Ponce's readiness for the specific educational challenges and opportunities inherent in an IP school. Masaluon emphasized fostering cultural sensitivity, adapting curriculum to include local heritage-based initiatives, and maintaining robust partnerships with the local community and elders.

Speaking on behalf of the teaching personnel, Capisnon honored Masaluon not only as an administrative leader who guided the school, but also as a valued friend and colleague to the faculty.

Speaking on behalf of the student body during the general assembly, Banay expressed the students' readiness to support Ponce’s incoming leadership while extending warm wishes to Masaluon for his next assignment.

The convocation served as the official campus gathering to introduce Ponce to the students and faculty following the administrative turnover conducted on July 31.
