The STE student joined Regional Science Technology and Innovation Week in the theme of 𝙿𝙰𝙱𝙰𝚂𝙺𝚄𝙶𝙰𝙽 𝙸𝚃 𝚁𝙾𝙱𝙾𝚃: 𝚁𝚘𝚋𝚘𝚝𝚒𝚌𝚜 𝚃𝚛𝚊𝚒𝚗𝚒𝚗𝚐 𝚊𝚗𝚍 𝙲𝚑𝚊𝚕𝚕𝚎𝚗𝚐𝚎

The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) launched the Regional Science, Technology and Innovation Week (RSTW) at the ABL Sports Complex last October 2, 2026, to showcase Filipino innovations and promote science and technology among students and the community.

The week-long celebration brought together students, teachers, researchers, and innovators from across Western Visayas. The event featured technology exhibits, product demonstrations, science fora, and interactive activities aimed at highlighting local inventions and research outputs. Students from various schools, including Linabuan National High School, participated in the event and explored different booths.

According to the organizers, the celebration aims to bring science closer to the people and inspire the youth to pursue careers in science and technology. "We want to show that science is not just in the laboratory, but it is part of our daily lives and can help solve community problems," an organizer said during the program.

The activity provided an opportunity for learners to appreciate the role of innovation in building a progressive and sustainable future.

Pero jokes aside, ano nga ba talaga ang La Niña? 🤔

🌧️ WHAT IS 𝓛𝓐 𝓝𝓘Ñ𝓐?

La Niña is a climate pattern under the El Niño–Southern Oscillation (ENSO) that happens when sea-surface temperatures in the central and eastern tropical Pacific Ocean become cooler than usual.

For the Philippines, La Niña is generally associated with more frequent or above-normal rainfall, which can increase the possibility of flooding, landslides, and other weather-related hazards.

Basically, kung ang El Niño ay “mainit na mainit, wala nang tubig TULDOK” si La Niña naman ay “sige, bibigyan kita ng tubig TULDOK” 🌧️

⚠️ EFFECTS AND RISKS

Because La Niña can bring more rainfall, it may lead to:

🌧️ Heavy and prolonged rainfall
🌊 Flooding and flash floods
⛰️ Rain-induced landslides, especially in vulnerable areas
🌀 Strong weather systems and possible tropical cyclones
🏠 Damage to houses, roads, crops, and other infrastructure
🚫 Disruptions to classes, transportation, work, and daily activities

🛟 HOW CAN WE STAY SAFE?

BEFORE HEAVY RAIN 🌧️

• Check official PAGASA weather forecasts and warnings regularly.
• Prepare an emergency kit with water, food, flashlight, batteries, first-aid supplies, and important documents.
• Keep your phone and other important devices charged.
• Know the safest evacuation route in your community.
• Secure objects around your home that could be blown away or damaged by strong winds.
• Keep drainage areas clear of trash and other blockages.

DURING HEAVY RAIN 🌧️

• Stay indoors when conditions become dangerous.
• Avoid crossing flooded roads, rivers, or fast-moving water.
• Stay away from areas prone to flooding and landslides.
• Follow evacuation orders and instructions from local authorities.
• Keep listening to official weather updates instead of relying only on social media posts.

AFTER THE RAIN 🌤️

• Don’t immediately enter flooded or damaged areas.
• Watch out for unstable soil, especially near slopes and mountains.
• Stay away from fallen electrical wires and damaged electrical equipment.
• Continue monitoring official announcements before returning to affected areas.
• Help family members, neighbors, and others who may need assistance, if it is safe to do so.

💡 REMEMBER:

La Niña may be bringing “mauulanan ka NGANII!” energy, but the real plot twist is when you’re caught unprepared.

Don’t panic. Don’t ignore the warnings. PREPARE.

Because when La Niña enters the group , you don’t need to be the strongest—

you just need to be READY. 🌧️

FINAL RESEARCH DEFENSE DONE 😭🔥

Congratulations, Grade 10 STE!!! You survived the final boss level of research from “ano na progress?” to “ready na ba kayo?” to “defense na bukas???”… and yet you still showed up and ATE 💯

The puyat was real. The pressure was real. The kaba was VERY real. But so was the talent, the teamwork, and the brains 🧠✨

Panelists asked, you answered. Slides clicked, hearts raced, but in the end… YOU DID THAT 👏

Not just students anymore… certified researchers na talaga 😌💅
