The Aklan Literati is thrilled to announce that Dr. Virgilio S. Almario, National Artist for Literature, will be the Keynote Speaker of the 2nd Kalibo Writers Workshop (KWW) to be held on April 29โ30, 2026.
A towering figure in Filipino literature, Rio Alma's body of work and decades of service to the nation's literary and cultural heritage make his presence at this year's workshop an honor for The Aklan Literati and the entire Aklanon literary community.
KWW continues to serve as a space to gather, support, and nurture both emerging and established Aklanon writers.

We are honored to be joined by seasoned Akeanon writers, literary advocates, and cultural storytellers who will serve as mentors and guides to our fellows throughout this creative journey.
KWW is envisioned as a space to gather, support, and nurture both emerging and established Aklanon writers. Through focused mentorship sessions and meaningful peer exchange, the workshop offers fellows a valuable opportunity for literary growth, creative dialogue, and deeper engagement with the local literary community.

The Municipality of Kalibo, through the Kalibo Council for Culture and Arts (KCCA), in partnership with the Aklan Literati and the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA), proudly announces the accepted fellows for the 2nd Kalibo Writers Workshop (KWW).
The selected fellows are: (Nonfiction) John Augie S. Fulgencio and Jedaiah Kish De Pedro; (Poetry) Marie Joy U. De Pedro, Eric Dimo, Johs Hesan D. Iray, Kate Nicole De la Peรฑa, Megen M. Custodio, Nino Karl Adrian Tolentino, Leanefel Raรฑeses, Richelle Ramos, and Mark Jay Molina; and (Fiction) Kianne Kathreene Capispisan and Joseph Dela Cruz.
As part of the local literary celebration, the workshop will be held on April 29โ30, 2026, at the New Municipal Hall, Poblacion, Kalibo, Aklan.
The chosen KWW Fellows are qualified to receive special literary awards in the contest on the same day.
The workshop directors will be Aklanon writers Phillip Yerro Kimpo, Jr., Rommel Constantino, and Jed Nykolle Harme. They will be joined by a distinguished panel of renowned Aklanon writers who will serve as mentors and critics throughout the workshop.
We are also honored to be graced by National Artist for Literature Virgilio S. Almario, who will serve as the keynote speaker for the fellowsโ graduation. His presence promises to make this gathering even more meaningful and memorable for the fellows and the local literary community.

The Aklan Literati, in partnership with the Municipality of Kalibo through the Kalibo Council for Culture and Arts (KCCA), is now accepting applications for the historic 2nd Kalibo Writers Workshop to be held face-to-face in April 29-30, 2026, as part of the Pamisaea it Kalibo Literary Festival.
AkLit comprises established and emerging writers in Aklan dedicated to promoting literature and the arts in the region. Its main thrust is to strengthen Aklanon literature and cultivate a reading culture in the province. The chosen KWW Fellows will be entitled to a plaque of recognition.
The workshop is open to writers who are residents or natives of Kalibo, aged 18 and above. The workshop is open to students, professionals, workers, and out-of-school youths.
Fellowships are open for poetry, creative nonfiction, and short fiction in Akeanon, Filipino, or English. The workshop will be conducted for two days; participants are expected to attend all sessions. The schedule will be provided to the selected participants in advance.
Submission guidelines:
1. A word file (.doc or.docx) of original and unpublished manuscript. The manuscripts shall be composed of any of the following:
- Suite of 5 poems or 1 long poem of any kind (for Poetry)
- 1 short story, 1 children's story, or 2 flash fictions (for Fiction)
- 1 personal essay (for Creative Nonfiction)
- One-act stage play or screenplay for a short film (for Script)
2. Provide a brief bio note with contact details (email address, Facebook link, contact number, home address, and proof of residence) in a separate file.
3. Include your most recent portrait photo (jpg or png). All entries must be original, unpublished, and not previously submitted to other creative writing workshops. Submissions must be sent via email at [email protected].
