Passed the PRC board exam? You may no longer need to take the Civil Service Exam when applying for a government job.
Under Republic Act No. 1080, individuals who pass PRC licensure examinations are automatically recognized as civil service eligibles. The same recognition applies to Bar Examination passers.
This means qualified board passers already possess what the Civil Service Commission calls Bar/Board Eligibility, without having to take the Career Service Examination separately.
The CSC also clarified that passers do not need to visit its offices to apply for a separate Certificate of Eligibility. Their PRC professional license, Certificate of Registration, or Report of Rating may serve as proof.
For board examinations requiring a bachelor's degree, the resulting eligibility may be used for appropriate first- and second-level government positions, including certain positions outside the passer's profession.
For example, a licensed teacher or accountant may also qualify for government positions that do not involve teaching or accounting, provided the position does not require another specific license or special eligibility.
However, civil service eligibility does not automatically guarantee government employment. Applicants must still meet the education, experience, training, competency, and other qualification standards required for the position.
For licensed professionals planning to enter government service, passing the board exam may have already fulfilled one of the requirements they thought needed another examination.
