Proudly Aklanon: 3 ACC Faculty in WV Translators Directory

Aklan Catholic College proudly celebrates three of its faculty members—Dr. Ersyl T. Biray, Director for Research and Creative Works; Dr. Profetiza I. Maatubang, and Ms. Aya Shaira R. Gabales, Dean and Faculty Member, respectively, from the Faculty of Teacher Education—who have been named to the Western Visayas Translators Directory: Translation and Localization Professionals in the Region (2026-2027) under the UP Visayas Language Program Office.

The inclusion of these faculty members reflects their expertise and highlights ACC’s commitment to heritage preservation and linguistic scholarship, ensuring that Aklanon and other regional languages remain vibrant for future generations. Stepping into this new role, their journey reflects a larger narrative: translation is not simply about words, but about weaving connections, preserving identity, and ensuring that the rich linguistic tapestry of Western Visayas endures for generations to come.

“As a steward of indigenous culture, translation is not simply about converting words from one language to another,” Dr. Biray shared. “It is about preserving identity, connecting communities, and ensuring that our regional languages—particularly Aklanon—remain alive and relevant in education, culture, and everyday life.”

The Translators Directory aims to build a stronger, more active community of professionals dedicated to collaborating on the diverse languages of Western Visayas. By connecting emerging and experienced translators, language practitioners, and cultural advocates, the program advances translation and localization as essential practices that go beyond language services—serving instead as powerful tools for cultural preservation, research, education, and community development.

The participation of 64 language experts from Region VI underscores the growing recognition of translation as a professional and cultural endeavor—one that connects communities, preserves indigenous knowledge, and strengthens the visibility of Western Visayan languages in academic and public discourse.

DepEd–Nabas Taps ACC Academic Heads as Research Workshop Speakers

The Department of Education (DepEd)–District of Nabas opened its 4-day Training-Workshop, “From Evidence to Excellence: Empowering Teachers Through Research and Classroom Innovation”, by inviting three distinguished academic heads from Aklan Catholic College (ACC) as resource speakers. The event, held on September 11–14, 2026, in Boracay Island, aimed to strengthen teachers’ research competence and empower them to translate evidence into meaningful classroom innovations that improve learner outcomes.

Dr. Ma. Abigail C. Nolasco, Dean of the Faculty of Business and Management Education and ACC Research Coordinator; Dr. Profetiza I. Maatubang, Dean of the Faculty of Teacher Education; and Mr. Alextaire C. Villanueva, Chairperson of the Mathematics Discipline, led sessions on key areas of educational research. Their topics included the background and rationale of action and basic research in classroom settings, identification of school problems and needs, formulation of quantitative and qualitative questions and objectives, and the crafting of research proposals for action research.

The workshop gathered teachers from across the Nabas district, equipping them with practical tools and strategies to integrate research into everyday teaching. By bridging theory and practice, the sessions underscored the vital role of research in driving innovation and enhancing student learning.

This collaboration between ACC and DepEd–Nabas reflects ACC’s continuing commitment to academic excellence and community engagement. Through partnerships with external stakeholders, ACC reinforces its role as a steward of quality education and research, contributing to the professional growth of teachers and the advancement of local education.
