Strengthening Classroom Management Through Collaborative Practice
The Junior High School teachers of Bakhaw Norte Integrated School conducted collaborative sessions on “Strengthening Classroom Management through Collaborative Practice” as part of the school’s continuing efforts to promote a positive, safe, orderly, and learner-centered classroom environment.
The topic was discussed by the School Principal III Dr. Elnor T. Luna, provided an opportunity for teachers to share their experiences, classroom management strategies, challenges, and effective practices in handling diverse learner behaviors. Through meaningful discussions and collaborative reflection, teachers recognized that effective classroom management is not the sole responsibility of an individual teacher but a shared practice that requires consistency, communication, mutual support, and teamwork.
During the sessions, teachers discussed the importance of establishing clear classroom expectations, routines, and procedures. They shared practical approaches for promoting punctuality, respect, responsibility, active participation, and appropriate classroom behavior. Particular emphasis was given to the use of positive and non-violent discipline, where learners are guided, corrected, and encouraged without humiliation, fear, or physical punishment.
The teachers also explored strategies for addressing recurring learner behaviors through a restorative and developmental approach. Instead of focusing solely on punishment, teachers emphasized understanding the possible causes of behavior, engaging learners in respectful conversations, helping them recognize the consequences of their actions, and providing opportunities to make better choices.
A significant part of the collaborative sessions focused on sharing successful classroom practices among teachers. Teachers exchanged ideas on classroom routines, behavior reinforcement, learner engagement, communication strategies, and interventions for learners who require additional support.
This exchange allowed teachers to learn from one another and identify practices that could be adapted to their respective classes.
The sessions also highlighted the importance of consistency across the Junior High School level. When teachers establish common expectations and respond to learner behavior using consistent and respectful approaches, learners are more likely to understand boundaries and develop self-discipline and responsibility.
Through these collaborative sessions, the Junior High School teachers strengthened their commitment to creating classrooms where learners feel safe, respected, valued, and supported. The activity also reinforced the idea that effective classroom management is not simply about controlling behavior but about building relationships, teaching responsibility, developing self-discipline, and creating conditions where meaningful learning can take place.
