𝗖𝗛𝗠 𝗖𝗘𝗟𝗘𝗕𝗥𝗔𝗧𝗘𝗦 𝗦𝗞𝗜𝗟𝗟𝗦, 𝗟𝗘𝗔𝗥𝗡𝗜𝗡𝗚, 𝗔𝗡𝗗 𝗖𝗔𝗠𝗔𝗥𝗔𝗗𝗘𝗥𝗜𝗘 𝗜𝗡 𝟭𝟭𝗧𝗛 𝗦𝗞𝗜𝗟𝗟𝗬𝗠𝗣𝗜𝗖𝗦 𝗔𝗡𝗗 𝗦𝗨𝗠𝗠𝗜𝗧 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲

KABANKALAN CITY, Negros Occidental — Skills, creativity, and camaraderie took center stage as the College of Hospitality Management (CHM) of Central Philippines State University (CPSU) held its 11th Skillympics and Summit 2026 from August 11 to 13 at the Clemente Sports Complex.

Carrying the theme “EXELLENCE IN HOSPITALITY: HONORING CULTURE, SERVICE AND TRADITION" the three-day celebration brought CHM students together through competitions, learning sessions, and activities designed to strengthen their skills and prepare them for careers in the hospitality industry.

The celebration kicked off with the Skillympics, where students put their knowledge and practical abilities to the test through competitions such as Chef Wars, Cake Decorating, Fruit Carving, Bed Making, Tour Guiding, and Battle of the Brains. More than a display of talent, the competitions challenged students to demonstrate creativity, discipline, teamwork, and composure under pressure.

CHM Dean Sheila A. Ignacio emphasized the importance of developing these qualities as students prepare to enter the hospitality industry, where technical skills and teamwork play a vital role in delivering quality service.

The celebration continued with the CHM Summit 2026, which shifted the focus from competition to learning and inspiration. Guest speakers Ms. Claire C. Vallador and Ms. Miralee G. Calalas shared insights on the future of tourism, culinary heritage, and traditional baking, giving students perspectives that extended beyond their classroom lessons.

The summit also recognized the students who excelled in the Skillympics, celebrating their hard work and determination throughout the competitions. Mary Grace Noreen P. Leduna-Jaranilla, PhD, Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, delivered an inspirational message, encouraging students to continue pursuing excellence in their chosen field.

The final day brought a more festive atmosphere through the Acquaintance Party, themed “A Captain’s Ball: A Night of Fortune and Fame.” Students showcased their confidence, creativity, and talents through fashion and performances, while the event also welcomed the college’s new freshmen into the CHM community.

Adding to the evening’s energy were performances from Ms. Louella Joy P. Clavel and Mr. Jay Sombilon, while Ms. Daryl Faith C. Bacolod, MPA, and Ms. May Ann V. Malba helped facilitate the Summit’s guest introductions.

Behind the successful celebration were the CHM faculty, staff, and student leaders who worked together to bring the three-day event to life. The CHM student organization, together with Charity Vergara, Adviser of CoHMSS, and Roland Celis, OJT Coordinator, facilitated the event, ensuring the smooth implementation of its various activities. The CoHMSS officers, with support from ALPHA SIGMA PHI – EPSILON EPSILON CHAPTER, also contributed to the overall coordination and ex*****on of the celebration.

As the celebration came to a close, Dean Ignacio reminded students that the Skillympics and Summit went beyond competition, serving as a platform to “build unity, confidence, and excellence” among future hospitality professionals.

Through three days of competition, learning, and celebration, CHM once again highlighted the importance of developing not only skilled students but also confident, passionate, and service-oriented professionals ready to take on the hospitality industry.

The Cenphilian Publication (TCP) of Central Philippines State University - Main Campus showcased its commitment to visual journalism and storytelling as its representatives participated in the Fujifilm Nationwide Photo and Video Walk 2026 held in Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental, on August 15.

The delegation was led by 𝗠𝗮. 𝗦𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗮𝗿𝗮 𝗥𝗼𝘀𝗲 𝗦. 𝗥𝗮𝗺𝗼𝘀, Editor-in-Chief and Photojournalist, alongside 𝗟𝘂𝗰𝗸𝘆 𝗚𝗲𝗻𝗲 𝗕. 𝗧𝗮𝗯𝗼𝗿𝗱𝗼, Layout Artist, and 𝗖𝗲𝗻𝗼𝗻 𝗟𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗣𝘂𝗷𝗮𝗻𝘁𝗲, Photojournalist.

The event provided the team with an opportunity to capture authentic moments and stories within the local community while putting their skills in photography, visual storytelling, and creative design into practice.

Through their participation, the Cenphilian team strengthened its pursuit of meaningful visual journalism, combining journalistic instinct with creativity to document moments that reflect the character and spirit of the community.

Their participation in the nationwide event also highlights the publication's commitment to developing student journalists who can use visual storytelling to inform, connect, and preserve stories through compelling images.

KABANKALAN CITY, Negros Occidental – Central Philippines State University (CPSU) College of Engineering celebrates another achievement as two examinees successfully passed the August 2026 Mechanical Engineering Licensure Examination (MELE).

The successful examinees, Engr. Shyrene Oliva and Engr. Gremar Tarosan, have earned their professional titles as licensed Mechanical Engineers, adding to the growing list of CPSU graduates entering the engineering profession.

Their achievement reflects months of rigorous preparation, perseverance, and dedication toward their professional goals. The College of Engineering and the CPSU community expressed pride in their success, recognizing it as an inspiration to current Mechanical Engineering students pursuing the same path.

CPSU also commends all examinees who took the August 2026 MELE, acknowledging their courage, sacrifices, and efforts throughout the examination journey.

As the university welcomes its newest Mechanical Engineers, Engr. Oliva and Engr. Tarosan carry with them the pride of CPSU and the responsibility that comes with the title, serving as an inspiration to future engineers.

Lessons are piling,

We study and learn to raise our scores.
It’s all for our future, it’s all for the best,
But a reminder, dear students: don’t forget to rest.

No matter how hard this gets, never give up.
No matter how far the road is, don’t ever stop.
We’ve come so far, but there’s still a long way to go.
You will reach your goal, no matter how fast or slow.

We are all tired and drained,
But our health must be maintained.
Though college life is tough and hard to get by,
We learn to love, we learn to smile, and we learn to fly.

𝗙𝗔𝗥 𝗙𝗥𝗢𝗠 𝗛𝗢𝗠𝗘.

I know how hard it is to be far from home.

For many college students, especially freshmen, college is a new chapter filled with unfamiliar faces, difficult subjects, and responsibilities we were not used to having before. Suddenly, we have to learn how to manage our time, budget our allowance, prepare our own meals, and take care of ourselves. But for those living far from their families, the hardest part is often the feeling of being alone.

You wake up early and prepare everything yourself. You cook your own food, wash your own uniform, and get ready for class without hearing your mother say, “Good morning, anak.” When you come home tired, there may be no one waiting to ask how your day went or give you a comforting hug.

There are days when you miss home more than usual. You may feel overwhelmed by schoolwork, worried about your expenses, or simply wish you could be with your family. But despite all of that, you still get up the next morning. You still go to class. You still finish your requirements. You keep going.

And you should be proud of yourself for that.

Being far from home is not easy, but it is also teaching you how to become independent. Every meal you prepare, every peso you learn to manage, and every responsibility you handle on your own is helping you grow. These small experiences are shaping you into the person you are meant to become.

And remember, you are not truly alone. Your classmates are also adjusting. Your professors are there to guide you, and the CPSU community is here to support you.

This chapter may be difficult, but it is only temporary. Someday, you will look back and realize that the days you spent far from home taught you some of life's most important lessons.

So, to every student who is far from home: breathe, rest when you need to, and keep going. You may be far from your family, but you are getting closer to your dreams.

One day, you will look back and say, “I fought, and I made it.”

𝗦𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗶𝗰𝗲 𝗔𝗯𝗼𝘃𝗲 𝗦𝗲𝗹𝗳: 𝗥𝗲𝗱 𝗖𝗿𝗼𝘀𝘀 𝗬𝗼𝘂𝘁𝗵 𝗠𝗼𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘇𝗲𝘀 𝗦𝘁𝘂𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗖𝗣𝗥 𝗗𝗲𝗺𝗼𝗻𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻

The Red Cross Youth held its Orientation with the highlight activity, an Interactive CPR Demonstration, on Friday, August 7, 2026. The event aimed to equip student volunteers with essential life-saving skills and to introduce the organization’s programs and advocacies.

The program opened with a prayer, followed by the singing of the Philippine National Anthem and the CPSU Hymn.

Following the opening ceremonies, the resource speakers were introduced: Mr. Jarlie Alucatin, EMT; Mr. Jade Gerick Abajensa, Youth Instructor; and Ms. Angel Grace Esconde, EMS, who delivered a talk and CPR demonstration. Mr. Alucatin discussed what CPR is and its importance in many emergency situations. He also tackled the proper way to perform it on an adult and a child, as well as instances when CPR should not be performed.

During the demonstration proper, volunteers showcased how CPR is correctly performed. To make learning more engaging and memorable, participants practiced chest compressions to the beat of the song "Hawak Mo Ang Beat." This approach helped volunteers understand the correct compression rate of 100 to 120 per minute while making the training enjoyable.

The orientation emphasized the Red Cross Youth’s commitment to promoting emergency preparedness, service, and the value of "Service Above Self." Through hands-on activities, the organization aims to build a community of volunteers who are ready and capable to respond during emergencies.

Through this orientation, students were introduced to the core programs of the Red Cross Youth and were encouraged to actively participate in future trainings and service activities. By instilling knowledge, confidence, and compassion, the activity lays a strong foundation for developing responsible and service-oriented youth leaders.

The successful event was made possible through the joint effort of the Philippine Red Cross Youth and the Supreme Student Government (SSG), demonstrating their shared commitment to safety, preparedness, and service within the campus community.
