"God opposes the proud but shows favor to the humble."
James 4:6

Pride tricks us into believing that we must rely entirely on our own strength, status, or intellect. It builds walls between us and God, as well as between us and the people in our lives, making it hard to apologize, listen, or grow.
โ€‹Lowering our pride isn't about degrading ourselves; it's about shifting our perspective. True humility is acknowledging that our gifts, breath, and successes ultimately stem from God's grace rather than our own strength. When we let go of the need to always be right, superior, or self-reliant, we open up space for God to work in our lives. Embracing humility releases the heavy burden of keeping up appearances, inviting God's favor and peace into our daily walk.

Based on the Homily of Rev. Dexter James Pablico earlier during the Rite of Distributing Holy Communion Outside of Mass.

Vanity is fleeting. Nothing is permanent.

Like a morning fog that disappears when touched by sunlight, everything in this world will fade when the light comes. All that we see, all that we chase, and all that we hold onto will vanish.

That is why we must not waste our days.

Spend your time wisely. Live each day with purpose. Do not waste the life God has given you on things that will not last.

For only what is done for God will remain.

Ecclesiastes 1:2 - "Vanity of vanities, all is vanity."

In the year 1218, the Blessed Virgin Mary appeared to St. Peter Nolasco in Barcelona, Spain. At that time, many Christians were captured and made slaves by the Moors. Mary asked St. Peter to establish an Order to ransom and save the captives. Obeying her call, he founded the Order of Our Lady of Mercy or the Mercedarians. Since then, Our Lady of Mercy became known as the mother who brings freedom, hope, and compassion to those in chains physically and spiritually.

Our Lady of Mercy reminds us that true love is shown in mercy. Like her, we are called to free others from their own chains chains of hatred, pain, and sin by showing kindness and forgiveness. To be merciful is to love like Mary.

Our Lady of Mercy, pray for us!

"The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing. He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters, he refreshes my soul."
Psalm 23:1โ€“3

Rest isn't something you have to earn after exhausting yourselfโ€”it's a gift provided for you along the way. In a world that constantly demands more hustle and productivity, this psalm reminds us that God prioritizes our peace and restoration.
โ€‹When you recognize that you are cared for, the urgent urge to strive and worry begins to fade. You already have access to the grace, strength, and quiet you need for today.

St. Pio, also known as Padre Pio, was an Italian Capuchin priest born in 1887. At a young age, he already showed deep love for God. He is famous for bearing the stigmata the five wounds of Christ on his own body for 50 years. He was also known for his gift of healing, reading hearts in confession, and his deep devotion to prayer. He would always say, Pray, hope, and don't worry.

The life of St. Pio teaches us that suffering can bring us closer to Christ if we offer it with love. Despite his pain and wounds, he remained joyful, prayerful, and faithful in serving others, especially in the confessional.

Like Padre Pio, may we learn to pray without ceasing and to trust God even in difficult times, because worry is useless โ€” God is in control.

St. Pio of Pietrelcina, pray for us!

St. Thomas of Villanova was an Augustinian priest and Archbishop of Valencia. Though he was highly educated and powerful, he lived a very simple life and gave everything to the poor, which is why he is called the "Father of the Poor."

He reminds us that what we have is not truly ours, but for sharing. True holiness is found in generosity and seeing Christ in the poor.

St. Thomas of Villanova, pray for us!

Yesterday, September 21, we joyfully welcomed the Pilgrim Image of Our Lady of Loreto from Sampaloc, Manila as she arrived at the Saint Francis Xavier Cathedral for the Dalaw Loreto.

It was a blessed and grace-filled afternoon as the faithful, together with all officers under the Christian Formation Office (CFO), gathered with hearts full of love and devotion to welcome our Blessed Mother. With songs, prayers, and smiles, we accompanied Our Lady as a sign of our faith and our deep devotion to her as our Mother and intercessor.

Thank you, Our Lady of Loreto, for visiting our Cathedral and our community. May your visit inspire us to live with humility, faith, and love.

Our Lady of Loreto, pray for us!

RITE OF DISTRIBUTION OF HOLY COMMUNION OUTSIDE OF MASS | September 21
Presided by: Rev. Dexter James Pablico, MARE

Today, we celebrate the Feast of St. Matthew. He was one of the Apostles of Jesus, but before that, he was a tax collector like someone working in the BIR. During that time, being a tax collector was considered a sinful job because they did not collect only what was due, but collected more for their own profit. That is why people were angry whenever they saw a tax collector, including Matthew.

But one day, Jesus saw Matthew. Despite being a sinner and a tax collector, Jesus called him and said, "Come, follow me." And what did Matthew do? Without any hesitation, he immediately followed Jesus.

Reflection from the Homily:

Jesus did not call the perfect; He called the sinner. Matthew was hated by many and considered impure because of his job, but Jesus saw beyond his past and saw his heart. One call "Follow me" was enough for Matthew to leave everything behind.

This tells us that no matter how sinful our past is, Jesus still calls us. He does not look at who we were, but at who we can become in Him. Like Matthew, we are invited to respond immediately, without second thoughts. May we have the courage to stand up, leave our old ways, and follow Him today.

St. Matthew, pray for us!
