Last month's international success proved to be just the beginning, as General Marc M. Bangoy captured another podium finish, winning silver in the Olympic Recurve Under-18 event at the 2026 World Archery Asia (WAA) President's Cup and Joint Training Programme, held from July 30 to August 2 at the Archery Training Academy in Dhaka, Bangladesh.
The University of Southern MindanaoโUniversity Laboratory School (USM-ULS) senior high school archer entered the elimination rounds as the tournamentโs top seed after posting the highest score in the qualification round, underscoring his consistency against Asiaโs top youth archers.
Bangoy maintained his impressive form throughout the knockout stage to advance to the gold medal match against Indiaโs Cherale Dnyanesh Balaji. In a tightly contested final, he settled for silver after falling short by a single point.
Reflecting on the competition, Bangoy shared that the experience strengthened his confidence on the international stage.
"What stands out most is the moment everything went quiet," Bangoy recalled. "When I stepped to the line, it was just me, the target 60 meters away, and my breathing. Winning the silver medal felt surreal."
"More than the medal, what I'll remember is realizing, 'I belong here'โthat I, a 17-year-old from Kidapawan studying in Kabacan, can compete with the best in Asia," he added.
Bangoy credited the achievement to the unwavering support of the people who helped him throughout his journey.
"My family is my foundation. My coaches shaped me. They didn't just teach me form and techniqueโthey taught me discipline, patience, and how to stay calm when my heart is racing," he said. "My teammates are my second family at USM. We train together, we fail together, and we celebrate together."
He added, "USMโthe University of Southern Mindanaoโlgave me the platform. I'm not just shooting for myself. I'm shooting for my country and for every young athlete who dreams big."
With another international medal to his name, Bangoy has already shifted his focus to his next challenge, particularly the Asian Youth Championships in Dubai this December.
