The University of Southern Mindanao (USM), through its Publication and Printing Unit (PPU)—formerly the Research Publication Services Office (RPSO)—has recognized the university’s top 10 Scopus authors for 2025.

In 2025, the university produced 63 Scopus-indexed publications, with researchers in Social Sciences, Agricultural and Biological Sciences, Environmental Sciences, and Medicine and Health Sciences leading the output.

Faculty members of the University of Southern Mindanao (USM) have secured the 2026 Dr. Thomas L. McKenzie Faculty Research Grant from the International Organization for Health, Sports, and Kinesiology (IOHSK) for their proposed research project focusing on student health and well-being. The grant provides a total funding support of Php 200,000 for the implementation of the study.

The Dr. Thomas L. McKenzie Faculty Research Grant is one of IOHSK’s most recognized funding programs, supported by internationally distinguished scholar and Lifetime Honorary President Dr. Thomas L. McKenzie.

McKenzie Faculty Research Grant from the International Organization for Health, Sports, and Kinesiology (IOHSK) for their proposed research project focusing on student health and well-being.

𝗖𝗛𝗞 𝗗𝗢𝗠𝗜𝗡𝗔𝗧𝗘𝗦 𝗨𝗦𝗠’𝘀 𝗦𝗖𝗢𝗣𝗨𝗦 𝗥𝗘𝗦𝗘𝗔𝗥𝗖𝗛 𝗟𝗜𝗦𝗧 𝗙𝗢𝗥 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟱

The College of Human Kinetics (CHK) has emerged as a leading force in research at the University of Southern Mindanao, dominating the list of top Scopus-indexed authors for 2025. This achievement highlights CHK’s transformation from one of the university’s smaller colleges into a powerhouse of scholarly productivity and global research visibility.

Among the top contributors is Dr. Ruben L. Tagare, who ranked first, alongside fellow CHK researchers who collectively strengthened the college’s presence in international publications. Their work reflects a growing culture of research excellence, collaboration, and commitment to advancing knowledge in physical education, sports science, and related fields.

This underscores USM’s continuing rise in global academic engagement and showcases how dedication, mentorship, and institutional support can drive impactful research. Indeed, CHK’s success is a testament to the power of perseverance from humble beginnings to leading the way.

USM's most prolific authors were Dr. Ruben L. Tagare of the College of Human Kinetics and Dr. Krizler C. Tanalgo from the College of Science and Mathematics. Numerous researchers from the College of Human Kinetics made it to the list. Dr. Fredelino A. Galleto was the sole representative of the College of Engineering and Information Technology. Our very own PPU head, Dr. Jan Clyden B. Tenorio from the College of Veterinary Medicine, was also ranked.

A proud graduate of the Bachelor of Physical Education from the College of Human Kinetics—formerly known as the Institute of Sports, Physical Education, and Recreation—at the University of Southern Mindanao, Mohanisa represented with excellence as both a speaker and participant at the International Conference on Research and Innovations held in Bangkok, Thailand on March 27–28, 2026. She was honored as the 2nd Best Presenter, a testament to her dedication and academic brilliance.

Her study, “Hijab and Sports: Muslim Women Participation in Sports,” her undergraduate research under the guidance of Prof. Cheeze R. Janito, highlights her deep commitment to inclusivity and advocacy. Through her work, she amplifies the voices of Muslim women and champions greater representation in the world of sports.

Mohanisa’s journey is an inspiring reminder that passion, purpose, and perseverance can create meaningful impact.

𝗨𝗦𝗠 𝗝𝗼𝗶𝗻𝘀 𝗣𝗗𝗚𝗔 𝗔𝘀𝗶𝗮 𝗧𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗙𝗶𝗿𝘀𝘁 𝗧𝗶𝗺𝗲

The University of Southern Mindanao (USM) will compete for the first time in an international disc golf tournament as it joins Lipad Pilipinas 2026, the 5th stop of the Professional Disc Golf Association Asia Tour. The event will take place from February 27 to March 1, 2026 at the Jose V. Yap Sports and Recreational Complex in Tarlac City.

This marks USM’s first time to compete in a tournament under PDGA. With this step, the university enters the international disc golf scene and opens new doors for its student-athletes.
