📢 MSU-Gensan IPTBM Featured in SCICOMUSTAHAN!

We are happy to share that the MSU-General Santos Intellectual Property and Technology Business Management (IPTBM) was featured in SCICOMUSTAHAN of WESMAARRDEC, represented by Ms. Jeanette Madas, Project Leader under the RAISE 2 Program, together with Ms. Prescila De Leon, beneficiary and technology generator of Nateura Face Cream and Body Lotion.

🔍 Key Highlights from the Discussion:

IPTBM Insights (Ms. Madas):
The region faces several challenges in Intellectual Property (IP) and licensing, including the absence of institutional IP policies, low IP filings, unclear royalty-sharing schemes, fragmented technology promotion efforts, and limited commercialization pathways. These gaps have led to missed opportunities for maximizing the value of university-developed technologies.

To address these, MSU-Gensan—through the support of DOST-PCAARRD’s RAISE 2 Program—implemented key initiatives:
✔️ Establishment of the IPTBM Unit under OVCREI
✔️ Capability-building through masterclasses in IP, agribusiness, and commercialization
✔️ Launch of the TECH X Bootcamp and Innovation Expo
✔️ Development and BOR approval of the Institutional IP and Technology Transfer Policy
✔️ Implementation of an IP Audit Framework and formal IP filing processes
✔️ Creation of a structured commercialization pathway
✔️ Establishment of the Knowledge, Innovation, and Technology Transfer Office (KITTO)

📌 Technologies Supported by IPTBM-MSUGensan:
• Nateura (CNSM): TRL Assessment, TechCom Plan, Pitch Deck, IP Valuation & Promotion
• Food innovations from CFAS: Surimi, Tuna Tocino, Green Mussels
• Student-led technologies from BA&A: Gabilicious and more
• COE innovation: SafeStep – a smart pedestrian safety system

TECHNOLOGY GENERATOR Perspective (Ms. De Leon):

Addressing local challenges through innovation, Nateura was developed as a natural, research-based solution. With IPTBM support, the technology advanced through structured development, protection, and promotion—bridging the gap from laboratory to market.

✨ This feature underscores MSU-Gensan’s commitment to strengthening its innovation ecosystem, empowering researchers, and accelerating technology commercialization for regional development.

MSU-GenSan, SKSU, FBNAMC Forge Partnerships to Boost Innovation, Empower Communities

In a significant step toward inclusive innovation and sustainable development, MSU-General Santos, Sultan Kudarat State University (SKSU), and the Federation of Barangay Ned Associations Multi-Purpose Cooperative (FBNAMC) formalized their partnerships through a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) signing ceremony on March 24, 2026, at the Regional Science Research Center in MSU-GenSan.

Themed "Forging Partnerships for Innovation," the event solidified two agreements: a co-incubation partnership between MSU-GenSan and SKSU, and a technical assistance agreement between MSU-GenSan and FBNAMC.

Dr. Christine Dawn G. Obemio, Vice-Chancellor for Research, Extension, and Innovation at MSU-GenSan, underscored the university's commitment to extending expertise beyond the classroom. "Through our Intellectual Property and Technology Business Management (IPTBM) unit, we serve as a bridge—connecting ideas to opportunities, technologies to markets, and communities to sustainable growth," she said.

For SKSU, Dr. Rande DeChavez, Project Leader of SKSU IPTBM, highlighted the importance of HEI collaboration. "This collaboration reflects our shared vision of strengthening regional innovation ecosystems. We envision a dynamic exchange of knowledge, resources, and best practices that will empower both our institutions to nurture startups, researchers, and innovators who can respond to real-world challenges."

Dr. Dennis M. Meriales, Project Leader of SKSU ATBI, reaffirmed SKSU's dedication to providing the technical expertise needed for the co-incubation program.

The co-incubation partnership covers technologies such as banana vinegar, biofloc system for tilapia culture, upland rice-corn coffee as research products of the MSU-GenSan MINSUPALA Project, and Halal chevon sausage, and banana chips technology from SKSU.

Meanwhile, the agreement with FBNAMC—a federation of farmers' associations in Barangay Ned, Lake Sebu, including T'boli and Manobo communities—will provide technical assistance in IP management, product development, packaging and branding, business planning, and market linkages.

The MOA signing was led by Atty. Shidik T. Abantas, Chancellor of MSU-GenSan (represented by VCREI), Dr. Samson L. Molao, President of SKSU (represented by the Vice President for Administration and Finance), and Mr. Arniel C. Canonigo, President of FBNAMC.

Witnesses included Dr. Obemio and Jeanette B. Madas, Project Leader of MSU-GenSan IPTBM, alongside Dr. DeChavez and Dr. Meriales for SKSU, and Antonio M. Flores, Vice-President of FBNAMC.

"This partnership is anchored on trust, mutual respect, and a shared goal: to create a more inclusive and innovation-driven future for Mindanao," Dr. Obemio said. "Together, let us transform our commitments into concrete actions, and our actions into lasting impact."

With these partnerships now formalized, MSU-GenSan, SKSU, and FBNAMC are poised to empower communities, protect cultural heritage, and drive inclusive economic growth across Mindanao.
