𝐓𝐞𝐜𝐡𝐧𝐨𝐥𝐨𝐠𝐲 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐬𝐟𝐞𝐫 𝐒𝐮𝐦𝐦𝐢𝐭 | 𝐅𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐔𝐧𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐈𝐧𝐧𝐨𝐯𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐎𝐩𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐬 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐈𝐦𝐩𝐚𝐜𝐭
The Technology Transfer Summit, held on September 24, 2026, at the USM Commercial Building, brought together researchers, innovators, industry partners, government representatives, and other stakeholders to strengthen pathways for university technologies toward adoption, commercialization, and meaningful community impact.
The afternoon session opened with remarks from Dr. Debbie Marie L. Versoza, Vice President for Research, Development, and Extension, setting the direction for an afternoon centered on collaboration and technology transfer.
This was followed by an information session on USM IMPACT NXT and INOBASQET, led by Dr. Jalaloden B. Maroh, Head of the USM-IPTTBDO and Project Head of USM IMPACT NXT, providing an overview of the university’s initiatives in advancing innovation and technology transfer.
Joining us virtually via Zoom, Dr. Noel A. Catibog of DOST-PCAARRD shared insights on research and industry linkages, particularly on turning university innovations into opportunities for adoption and commercialization.
The regional innovation ecosystem was further highlighted through PDG Giselle Eve O. Siladan, Consortium Director of SICAD SOX, who discussed “SICAD SOX: Empowering the Innovation Ecosystem.”
Meanwhile, Mr. Ruel Villanueva of the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist, Province of Cotabato, shared perspectives on understanding community needs as drivers of innovation and technology transfer, highlighting the value of connecting university innovations with actual community needs.
A highlight of the afternoon was the Government and Industry Sharing Session, conducted in a fireside chat format, bringing together perspectives from government, finance, industry, agriculture, and the local innovation ecosystem. Joining the conversation were Ms. Tessa Jean Orea of the Land Bank of the Philippines Lending Center; Mr. Mark Nikko Manginsay, representing the Department of Trade and Industry; PD Giselle Eve O. Siladan of SICAD SOX; Mr. Ruel Villanueva of the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist; Mr. Dennis Caaya, owner of Herb Yard Herb Farm; Hon. Allan Dela Peña of the LGU Kabacan; and Dr. Sailila Abdullah, Branch Director of PhilRice Midsayap.
Throughout the event, university technologies and innovations were also exhibited, allowing participants and guests to engage with the outputs of research, development, and innovation within the university.
The program concluded with a Recognition and Appreciation segment, celebrating the contributions of partners and stakeholders who continue to support USM’s technology transfer and innovation initiatives.
The continued participation and support of partners—including the Provincial Government of Cotabato—remain an important part of strengthening the university’s innovation ecosystem and creating opportunities for technologies to reach the communities and industries they are meant to serve.
From research and innovation to collaboration and commercialization, the Technology Transfer Summit underscored the shared work of bringing university technologies closer to impact.

The summit featured discussions on technology commercialization, innovation adoption, startup incubation, and the role of research in addressing community needs.

As part of its founding anniversary celebration, the University of Southern Mindanao (USM), through the Intellectual Property, Technology Transfer, Business and Development Office (IPTTBDO) and the USM Adaptable and Resource-Efficient Technologies-Technology Business Incubator (USMART TBI), held the SPARK 3.0 Pitching Competition on September 24, 2026, at the University Commercial Building, USM, Kabacan, Cotabato.

Six student teams from the USM Main Campus and USM-Kidapawan City Campus took part in the competition, presenting technology-based solutions that address needs in health, agriculture, infrastructure, business, emergency management, and other areas.

The University of Southern Mindanao (USM) recognized faculty members and staff for their outstanding research publications and intellectual property outputs during the PRAISE Special Awards for Research, Development, and Extension on September 21, 2026, at the University Commercial Building, USM, Kabacan, Cotabato.
A total of 56 faculty members and staff received the Intellectual Property Awards for their copyrighted works and utility models, while 116 authors were recognized through the Publication Awards for their Scopus-indexed publications.

Building on the University's capabilities in research generation, intellectual property protection, incubation, and institutional mechanisms, the project aims to help move technologies from research to users, industry, and society.

With support from DOST-PCIEERD, the project will help build a sustainable institutional pipeline, from assessment and IP protection to industry engagement, adoption, licensing, commercialization, and impact.

This achievement reflects the dedication and collective efforts of the USM-IPTTBDO team and its partners in advancing research, innovation, and technology commercialization.
