The Bachelor of Science in International Relations (BSIR) Intern has successfully completed the On-The-Job Training at the Office of the Municipal Tourism in Pikit.

Throughout the internship, Rasul Panambay was able to work independently as the only assigned intern in the office, gaining hands-on experience in local tourism operations and public service.

As the only intern deployed in the office, Albert Dillera carried out his internship responsibilities with discipline, commitment, and professionalism.

Through this experience, he gained valuable insights into public order and safety governance, strengthening his knowledge and readiness for future responsibilities in public service and international relations.

Juniors from the Bachelor of Science in International Relations embarked on an educational excursion to the Consulate General of Japan, the Consulate General of The People’s Republic of China, and the Consulate General of Malaysia in Davao City on May 7 and 14, 2026.

The tour was made possible through the warm accommodation of the consulates and the guidance of the Department Chairperson, Ma’am Remedios C. Kulidtod, PhD, EdAdCAR, Ma’am Saima M. Andil, MAPD, Mr. Russel James F. Villa, and Mr. Monibar M. Sudang.

The educational excursion to various consulates provided students with a valuable academic experience that enhanced their understanding of diplomacy, international relations, and intercultural communication.

Through direct exposure to diplomatic institutions, the participants gained deeper insight into the functions and responsibilities of consulates in promoting international cooperation, protecting citizens abroad, and strengthening bilateral relations.

Students from the Department of International Relations under the Institute of Middle East and Asian Studies (IMEAS) participated in welcoming Hon. Agus Trenggono, Consul General of the Republic of Indonesia in Davao, together with the Indonesian delegates during their visit to the University of Southern Mindanao (USM) on May 20, 2026, held at the CASS AVR, Kabacan, Cotabato.

The visit aimed to strengthen ties between Indonesia and the Philippines through possible academic collaborations, scholarship opportunities, cultural exchange initiatives, and discussions on Indonesia’s economic diplomacy.

Meanwhile, Ms. Umi Yanti Febriana Silalahi, Consul for Information, Social, and Cultural Affairs, shared valuable insights regarding Indonesia’s soft power diplomacy in Mindanao and the importance of public diplomacy in promoting regional and global peace.

During the discussion, Dr. Remedios C. Kulidtod, Chairperson of the Department of International Relations, also raised possible collaborations between the institution and the Indonesian Consulate, particularly on internship opportunities and student engagement programs for International Relations students.

The participation of International Relations students in the event gave them an opportunity to witness diplomatic engagement firsthand and deepen their understanding of international cooperation and foreign relations.

Through initiatives such as this, USM continues to strengthen its connection with neighboring countries and promote global academic and cultural partnerships.
