‎𝙏𝙝𝙚 𝙄𝙣𝙨𝙩𝙞𝙩𝙪𝙩𝙚 𝙛𝙤𝙧 𝙋𝙚𝙖𝙘𝙚 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝘿𝙚𝙫𝙚𝙡𝙤𝙥𝙢𝙚𝙣𝙩 𝙞𝙣 𝙈𝙞𝙣𝙙𝙖𝙣𝙖𝙤 (𝙄𝙋𝘿𝙈), 𝙈𝙎𝙐-𝙎𝙪𝙡𝙪, participated in the cascading of the MSU-Sulu Five-Year Strategic Plan 2026–2030 on June 27, 2026, at the MSU-Sulu Auditorium. The activity was organized by the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Planning and Development, led by Prof. Kadafi A. Basaluddin, Ph.D.

‎On the final day of the activity, Prof. Rashmie G. Estino, Director for IPDM, MSU-Sulu, presented Goal 7: Strengthening Peace-building Advocacy, highlighting the University's commitment to advancing a culture of peace through the integration of peace education into academic programs, the strengthening of community-based peace-building initiatives, and the expansion of strategic partnerships and advocacy efforts that promote conflict resolution, social cohesion, and sustainable development.

‎The IPDM, MSU-Sulu under the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research, Extension, and Innovation (VCREI), headed by Prof. Abdel Ajim M. Salasasin, Ph.D., continues to support the implementation of MSU-Sulu's strategic goals by advancing peacebuilding initiatives that contribute to sustainable and inclusive development.

𝙋𝙧𝙤𝙛. 𝙍𝙖𝙨𝙝𝙢𝙞𝙚 𝙂. 𝙀𝙨𝙩𝙞𝙣𝙤, Director of the Institute for Peace and Development in Mindanao (IPDM), MSU-Sulu, served as the resource speaker during the seminar, "Contemporary Challenges and Innovation in Public Governance: Bridging Theory and Practice in Public Administration," organized by the Master of Public Administration (MPA) Program under the College of Public Affairs (CPA) on June 25, 2026, at the Faculty Training Center.

In his lecture, Prof. Estino discussed key issues in leadership, politics, and public governance, emphasizing the challenges confronting governance today and the importance of developing practical and responsive approaches to address them. He also encouraged participants to take an active role in understanding contemporary public issues and the responsibilities of future leaders in nation-building.

The seminar gathered student leaders from various colleges and campus organizations, providing a venue for meaningful discussion and exchange of ideas on current governance issues and public administration.

𝐼𝑃𝐷𝑀 𝑀𝑆𝑈-𝑆𝑢𝑙𝑢 𝘼𝙙𝙫𝙖𝙣𝙘𝙚𝙨 𝙃𝙞𝙨𝙩𝙤𝙧𝙞𝙘𝙖𝙡 𝘿𝙞𝙨𝙘𝙤𝙪𝙧𝙨𝙚 𝙩𝙝𝙧𝙤𝙪𝙜𝙝 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝘾𝙤𝙣𝙛𝙚𝙧𝙚𝙣𝙘𝙚 𝙤𝙣 𝘽𝙖𝙣𝙜𝙨𝙖𝙢𝙤𝙧𝙤 𝙃𝙞𝙨𝙩𝙤𝙧𝙮: 𝙁𝙤𝙘𝙪𝙨 𝙤𝙣 𝙎𝙪𝙡𝙪

The Institute for Peace and Development in Mindanao (IPDM) of Mindanao State University-Sulu successfully conducted the Conference on Bangsamoro History: Focus on Sulu, with the theme, "Reflecting Contemporary Sulu History and the Right to Self-Determination." The activity was funded by the Bangsamoro Commission for the Preservation of Cultural Heritage (BCPCH).

Serving as a continuation of the forum held on June 14, the conference provided a platform for deeper reflection on the historical legacy, identity, and right to self-determination of the Bangsamoro people.

Mr. Shermin M. Cabulao, Executive Assistant of BCPCH-Sulu, delivered the opening remarks on behalf of BCPCH-Sulu Commissioner Mr. Nurkadri J. Hamsali. Meanwhile, Prof. Nagder J. Abdurahman, Ed.D., Chancellor II of MSU-Sulu, delivered the keynote address.

Prior to the panel discussion, Prof. Hannbal H. Bara, Ph.D., and Prof. Rashmie G. Estino, DPA, delivered insightful lectures on Bangsamoro history, followed by a video presentation showcasing the previous programs and initiatives of IPDM MSU-Sulu.

The highlight of the event was the panel discussion, moderated by Mar-Udzna A. Sawadi, IPDM MSU-Sulu Secretary, during which participants actively engaged with the panelists through a meaningful and fruitful exchange of ideas. The activity concluded with the distribution of certificates and a closing message delivered by Prof. Altamir A. Salamuddin, MASS, IPDM MSU-Sulu Peace Research Coordinator.

Through initiatives such as this, IPDM MSU-Sulu continues to promote peace, preserve cultural heritage, and foster a deeper appreciation of Bangsamoro history, particularly that of Sulu.

𝐼𝑃𝐷𝑀 𝑀𝑆𝑈-𝑆𝑢𝑙𝑢 𝙝𝙤𝙡𝙙𝙨 𝙁𝙤𝙧𝙪𝙢 𝙤𝙣 𝘾𝙤𝙣𝙩𝙚𝙢𝙥𝙤𝙧𝙖𝙧𝙮 𝙃𝙞𝙨𝙩𝙤𝙧𝙮, 𝙃𝙞𝙜𝙝𝙡𝙞𝙜𝙝𝙩𝙨 𝙎𝙪𝙡𝙪'𝙨 𝙃𝙞𝙨𝙩𝙤𝙧𝙞𝙘𝙖𝙡 𝙇𝙚𝙜𝙖𝙘𝙮

In line with efforts to preserve and strengthen Sulu heritage and historical consciousness, the Institute for Peace and Development in Mindanao (IPDM) of Mindanao State University-Sulu successfully conducted the Forum on the Contemporary Bangsamoro History: Focus on Sulu on June 14, 2026, at the Human Development Training Center, MSU-Sulu.

Anchored on the theme, “Reflecting Contemporary Sulu History for Better Transition Towards Peace and Development,” the forum brought together educators, historians, researchers, and stakeholders from various educational institutions engaged in the teaching of history. The activity was funded by the Bangsamoro Commission for the Preservation of Cultural Heritage (BCPCH-BARMM) as part of its continuing support for the preservation and documentation of Bangsamoro history.

The program formally opened with remarks from Mr. Altamir A. Salamuddin, MASS, IPDM Peace Research Coordinator, who underscored the importance of historical consciousness in fostering peace, identity, and development. A message of support was delivered by Commissioner Nurkadri J. Hamsali of BCPCH-BARMM, who commended historians, researchers, and writers for their contributions to the preservation and strengthening of authentic Sulu narratives.

Delivering the keynote address, Prof. Nagder J. Abdurahman, Ed.D., Chancellor II of MSU-Sulu, emphasized the interconnected concepts of “Path, Power, and Prosperity,” stressing that communities themselves are active participants in shaping history. He likewise highlighted the importance of preserving historical memory, noting that “if you lose your history, you lose your identity.”

The forum featured lectures by Prof. Hannbal H. Bara, Ph.D., who discussed the foundations and contemporary realities of Sulu history; Prof. Rashmie G. Estino, DPA, Director of IPDM, who presented the evolution of negotiation and peace agreements in the Bangsamoro struggle; and Atty. Meltino J. Sibulan, who explored the origin of Sug and the historical sovereignty of the Sultanate of Sulu.

An open forum followed, allowing participants to exchange insights on historical narratives, peace processes, cultural identity, and self-determination. The activity concluded with the awarding of certificates and a photo opportunity, reaffirming the role of historical scholarship in preserving cultural heritage and advancing peace and sustainable development in Lupah Sug and the broader Bangsamoro region.

OPAPRU-MSU Partnership on MNLF Transformation Program continues to flourish as the MSU-Sulu Team conducts Capacity Development Training for MNLF communities with the theme: "Transitioning Communities through Sustainable Development" on September 16-21, 2024 at Balai Dormitory and Restaurant, Isabela City, Basilan. This training aims to capacitate the MNLF communities on Agriculture, Fisheries, Cooperativism and Halal Marketing strategies. The event is divided into 2 parts: First was with the Brgy. Boheh-Piang anf Brgy. Kuhon, Albarka; Second was with Brgy. Semmut, Akbar and Brgy. Lahi-Lahi, Tuburan constituting 30 participants from each barangay with a total of 120 participants.

MSU-Sulu, IPDM would like to extend their sincerest gratitude to the distinguished individual for sharing their expertise to the MNLF communities: Prof. Jenny P. Kibtiani, Jr., L.Agr.; Prof. Lioner O. Araham; Mr. Mohammad Nour M. Husin, from MTIT; from MAFAR: Mr. Eduardo Sinaco and Mr. Muamar M. Abdurahim; Prof. Alzad T. Sattar from UP-Diliman.
