EYES HERE | 𝘾𝙤𝙢𝙢𝙚𝙢𝙤𝙧𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣 𝙤𝙛 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙇𝙖𝙩𝙚 𝙁𝙤𝙪𝙣𝙙𝙚𝙧, 𝙂𝙧𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙄𝙢𝙖𝙢 𝙔𝙖𝙘𝙤𝙗 𝙄𝙨𝙢𝙞 - October 10, 2004

Today, the Southwestern Mindanao Islamic Institute (SMII) solemnly remembers its revered founder, Grand Imam Yacob Ismi (رحمه الله), a man of deep faith, wisdom, and lifelong dedication to Islam and peace.

Born on December 16, 1932, Grand Imam Yacob Ismi devoted his life to Islamic education, da’wah, peace building, and community service. 𝙃𝙚 𝙤𝙣𝙘𝙚 𝙨𝙚𝙧𝙫𝙚𝙙 𝙖𝙨 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙂𝙧𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙄𝙢𝙖𝙢 𝙤𝙛 𝙍𝙚𝙜𝙞𝙤𝙣 𝙄𝙓 and became widely known as a peace advocate and bridge-builder among Muslim and non-Muslim communities, and where he became a respected voice of Islamic unity, education, and moral guidance across the Muslim communities of Western Mindanao.

He played a vital role in the peace negotiations between the Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) and the Philippine Government during the administrations of President Ferdinand E. Marcos Sr. (1976), President Corazon C. Aquino (1986), and President Fidel V. Ramos (1996), contributing his wisdom and leadership to the pursuit of lasting peace in Mindanao.

He represented the Province of Sulu in various Islamic dialogues both locally and abroad, serving as:
-President of the Sulu Ulama Council
-Vice President of the Sulu Bishop-Ulama Council
-President of the National Federation of Arabic Madaris of the
Philippines
-President of the National Federation of Islamic Associations of
the Philippines

Through his vision and dedication, the Southwestern Mindanao Islamic Institute was founded, an institution anchored on ‘Ilm, Iman, and Amal.

His legacy continues to inspire generations to pursue knowledge, uphold peace, and serve humanity for the sake of Allah.

EYES HERE | Nursing Faculty Take Part in OBE Training to Advance Quality Education

Two of our dedicated nursing faculty proudly participated in the Outcomes-Based Education (OBE) Training for Nurse Educators in Region IX and BARMM, held on September 15-17, 2025. The 3-day seminar was conducted by ADPCN-PNEA and hosted by Western Mindanao State University.

Successfully completed, this training not only equipped our educators with updated knowledge, strategies, and assessment tools aligned with OBE standards, but also provided opportunities to exchange ideas and network with fellow educators from other nursing institutions.

This initiative reflects our institution’s proactive commitment to continuously improving our system and strengthening the delivery of quality nursing education, ensuring that our students are prepared to thrive in an ever-evolving health care environment.

📣 HIRING | CRIMINOLOGY INSTRUCTORS WANTED

Southwestern Mindanao Islamic Institute is looking for qualified and dedicated individuals to join our Criminology Department as Lecturers/Instructors for this academic term.

Qualifications:
-Must be a Registered Criminologist
-Retired police officers and professionals with substantial field experience in law enforcement, investigation, corrections, or forensics are encouraged to apply.
-Master’s degree, or actively enrolled in graduate studies is a plus
-With good moral character, strong communication skills, and passion for teaching.
