JNHS duo reigns anew in District Nutri-Quiz Bee '26
‎
‎Jimalalud National High School defended its title after emerging champion in the Inter-District Nutrition Quiz Bee on Monday.
‎
Representing JNHS, Godofredo Rafael Vagilidad and Zyque Ethan Flores topped the competition among six participating secondary schools in Jimalalud.
‎
‎According to coach-adviser Roquiza Jane M. Taladua, the team's preparation centered on focused and consistent review, practicing possible questions, learning from their mistakes, and developing independent learning while maintaining discipline, confidence, and humility throughout the competition.
‎
‎Infant King Academy placed second, while Owacan Provincial Community High School finished third among the participating schools.
‎
‎"I felt really relieved and rewarded after the competition ended. After so much hours spent on improving my knowledge in nutrition, being called up on stage cooled me down a lot," Vagilidad said.

The champions attributed their victory to the support of their classmates, teachers, and coach. They emphasized that consistent preparation, curiosity, humility, and confidence were key to their success and encouraged future contestants to continue learning and believe in their abilities.

SPORTS | Volleyball teams strike gold in Pakusganay '26

Volleyball squads from Labrador, Baylon, Gacho, and Vidal emerged as champions during the “Pakusganay 2026” Intramurals, held at Jimalalud National High School, July 16.

Grade 8 Labrador secured the Category A girls’ division, followed by Grade 7 Fuentes and Grade 8 Bontigao as first and second runners-up, while Grade 10 Baylon took Category B, with Grade 9 Maquiling and Grade 10 Gentiles placing as first and second runners-up.

Among the boys’ teams, Grade 8 Gacho topped Category A, with Grade 7 Alberto and Grade 8 Labrador placing as first and second runners-up, while Grade 9 Vidal finished atop the Category B title, followed by Grade 10 Baylon and Grade 10 Gentiles as first and second runners-up.

Cristina Dela Cruz, chairperson of the Volleyball Female Officiating Committee, said the tournament went beyond competition, emphasizing that “winning is just a bonus” and that intramurals promote “having fun, building friendships, and learning teamwork.”

Despite the rain, students and spectators remained at the open court until the final point, cheering on their respective teams throughout the matches.

The Intramurals also provide an opportunity to identify student-athletes who will represent JNHS in upcoming higher-level meets, including the Negros Oriental Athletic Association.

SPORTS | Labaya, Carlos seize Chess Category A titles; Lim, Estrabella rule Category B

Jesserie G. Labaya, Crison Carlos, Alexah Lean Lim, and Vince Jerick Estrabella captured the chess titles in their respective categories during the Junior High School Chess Tournament of the “Pakusganay 2026” Intramurals, held at Jimalalud National High School from July 14 to 17.

The four chess champions are among JNHS' potential representatives for the Municipal Meet, where they could earn spots and advance to the Negros Oriental Athletic Association (NORAA) Meet.

Representing their respective sections, Labaya competed for Grade 7–Quiñanola, Carlos for SPA 7 & 8–Abracadabrador, Lim for SPA 9 & 10–Gantaladua, and Estrabella for Grade 9–Vidal during the tournament.

The tournament featured two grade-level categories, Category A for Grades 7 and 8 and Category B for Grades 9 and 10, where players competed in a seven-round FIDE Swiss System tournament, with players paired based on their rankings, winners determined by the number of wins, and tie-breaking systems applied in cases of equal scores.

Lim described her victory as both unexpected and rewarding, saying, “It was a fun but challenging experience because I doubted myself and thought that I would lose. It was an unforgettable moment that made me realize that hard work and determination really do pay off.”

Carlos, meanwhile, said the competition tested his determination and faith, adding, “With my passion and hard work, I was able to overcome the challenges because God was beside me. I feel so happy because I only won bronze before, and now I finally became the champion.”

NEWS | JimaNaHShians face-off in Nutri Quiz-Bee '26

The scratch of chalk, the ringing of bells, and the silence of anxious minds filled the room as representatives from every section competed in the 2026 School-Based Nutri-Quiz Bee, across three categories at Jimalalud National High School from July 14 to 16.

The competition featured Category A for Grades 7 and 8, Category B for Grades 9 and 10, and Category C for Grades 11 and 12, with each section sending two representatives to answer 25 questions consisting of 15 easy and 10 difficult items.

Quizmasters Ma'am Imee M. Granalem for Category A and Ma'am Cristina O. Dela Cruz for Categories B and C read each question twice before contestants wrote their answers on chalkboards and raised them at the second bell for checking by the TLE Committee.

SPA 8 Acabal topped Category A, SPA 9 Taladua led Category B, and HUMSS 12 Athena claimed the Category C title.

The winning sections are set to represent Jimalalud National High School in the Municipal Nutrition Quiz Bee should the next level of competition be held.

Pickleball debuts in Pakusganay '26

Pickleball makes its first-ever appearance in Pakusganay 2026 at Jimalalud National High School on Wednesday.

The fast-growing paddle sport was added in the sports lineup as a new event open only to Grade 11 and 12 students.

“Pickleball has rapidly gained popularity across communities, with numerous athletic associations opening their doors to the sport. It is only timely for JNHS to do the same,” said Sir Michael Angelo B. Palomar, Senior High School teacher and pickleball facilitator.

“I hope they remember the thrill of learning something new, the frustration of trying to figure out how the sport works, and the excitement of exploring a new domain,” said Princess Dhenise G. Cuevas, SSG President.

Pickleball player Maybeline Faburada shared that she felt nervous before her first serve, worrying that the ball might go out of bounds.

The debut of pickleball highlights the continued growth of Pakusganay ‘26 as the intramurals expand its roster of competitive sports, providing students with new avenues to participate, develop, and showcase their athletic skills.

NEWS | JimaNaHShians defy drizzle, rally for Pakusganay '26

As petrichor lingered after the rain, Intramurals "Pakusganay 2026" brought a breath of fresh air to JimaNahHShians amid their usual instructional routine at Jimalalud National High School, Monday.

The annual intramurals give students a leeway from their regular academic activities while fostering camaraderie, discipline, and healthy competition through various sporting activities.

"We have to be humble in victory and gracious in defeat," said Sir Ernewin B. Estoconing, Principal I, during his message and declaration of Pakusganay 2026.

Marking the onset of the event is the lighting of the cauldron initiated by the JNHS Softball Team NIRAAM 3rd placers: Anny Caburog, Joshvhevie Anne Sarana, and Christine Jade Loquillano.

The sporting events serve as an avenue to select athletes who will represent the school in the upcoming Negros Oriental Athletic Association Meet during the end-of-term block of the First Term.
