LARO NG LAHI (PART 2)

PLAYING CHINESE GARTER

โ€œLaro ng Lahiโ€ translates to "Traditional Filipino Games" or "Indigenous Games" in the Philippines. These are native, recreational games that have been passed down through generations, often played using local materials or just the players themselves.traditional garments, particularly for women.

Let's explore its history and mechanics.

History:

The Chinese garter has a long history, dating back to the Han Dynasty (206 BCE - 220 CE). During this period, it was used to secure the sleeves of traditional Chinese garments, such as the "ruqun" or "banbi" (half-sleeved garments). Over time, the design and materials used for the garter evolved, and it became a common accessory for women to secure their clothing, especially during the Ming (1368-1644 CE) and Qing (1644-1912 CE) dynasties.

Mechanics:

A traditional Chinese garter typically consists of a length of fabric, usually made of silk or cotton, with a decorative tassel or knot at one end. The garter is designed to be wrapped around the leg, just above the knee, and secured with a tie or a knot. The garter is usually made of a soft, flexible material that can be easily adjusted to fit different leg sizes.

The mechanics of the Chinese garter involve a simple yet effective design:

Wrap: The garter is wrapped around the leg, usually just above the knee, with the decorative tassel or knot facing outward.

Tie: The garter is secured with a tie or a knot, which can be adjusted to fit the leg comfortably.

Tuck: The loose end of the garter is tucked into the garment, usually a skirt or pants, to keep it in place.

Played by SPEM-2 Students:

As part of their physical education program, SPEM-2 students had a fun and exciting experience playing the traditional Chinese garter game. This game is a great way to promote teamwork, coordination, and balance, while also learning about the cultural significance of the Chinese garter. The students enjoyed the challenge of trying to keep the garter in place while moving around, and they had a blast competing with each other to see who could play the game the best.
