There is no significant difference between earthing and grounding, but a slight difference is that in grounding current carrying parts are directly connected to the ground. While in earthing, non-current carrying part of the equipment is connected to the earth. The purpose of grounding is to balance the unbalanced load whereas the earthing protect the equipment and human from an electrical shock which is caused by leakage currents.
