Basilan State College, under the visionary leadership of College President Dr. Haipa Abdurahim Salain, proudly celebrated its 42nd Recognition Day at the BaSC Gymnasium. The event honored board passers, outstanding student leaders, academic achievers, and was anchored on the theme, โAdvancing Knowledge, Innovation, and Service for a Sustainable and Transformative Future.โ
Among those present during the celebration were College President Dr. Haipa Abdurahim Salain; Provincial Director of the Ministry of Trade, Investment, and Tourism and Guest Speaker Dr. Argie J. Sarco; Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Sheila U. Alonzo; Faculty Union President Hon. Alsad Lahaman; Student Affairs and Services Director Prof. Nur Hussein H. Ladjagais; and Basilan Province Member of Parliament Hon. Abrar J. Hataman, represented by Mr. Julman Saddaalal. Also in attendance were college deans, directors, faculty members, staff, parents, students, and other college officials.
The highlight of the event was the recognition of students for their outstanding academic performance, exemplary leadership, and significant contributions to the college community. The ceremony also paid tribute to BaSC alumni who recently passed various licensure examinations, underscoring the institutionโs commitment to producing competent professionals who contribute meaningfully to society and nation-building.
In his opening remarks, Student Affairs and Services Director Prof. Nur Hussein H. Ladjagais emphasized the true essence of recognition beyond awards and honors. โToday is about recognizing the service, dedication, and resilience you showed when things got difficult,โ he said, encouraging students to appreciate not only their achievements but also the challenges they had overcome throughout their academic journey.
One of the most inspiring moments of the program was the message delivered by the keynote speaker, Dr. Argie J. Sarco, who encouraged the awardees to continue striving for excellence and reminded them that every success story is built on perseverance and determination. โToday is not merely a celebration of awards and achievements. It is a celebration of perseverance, sacrifice, dreams, and faith. Every medal and certificate you receive carries a storyโa story of sleepless nights, prayers, failures turned into lessons, and determination transformed into great success,โ he remarked.
Representing MP Abrar Hataman, Mr. Julman Saddaalal delivered a message of support, reaffirming the Bangsamoro Governmentโs commitment to expanding educational opportunities through scholarship programs. He emphasized the impact of the AHON Bangsamoro Scholarship Program, stating, โThrough the AHON Bangsamoro Scholarship Program, our mission has always been to empower people through education.โ He further assured continued support for students and graduates, adding, โWe will remain steadfast in providing support, opening doors, and preparing graduates to serve our communities with pride and purpose.โ
In her message, Dr. Salain highlighted the significance of the eventโs theme and emphasized the vital role of education in shaping future generations. โAng temang Advancing Knowledge, Innovation, and Service for a Sustainable and Transformative Future ay paalala na ang edukasyon ay may tungkuling humubog ng isip, kakayahan, at puso,โ she stated. She further underscored the transformative power of learning, saying: โAng kaalaman ay dapat na gumabay sa mas malinaw na pag-unawa. Ang edukasyon ay dapat na magbukas ng mga makabuluhang solusyon.โ
In closing, Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Alonzo concluded the meaningful celebration by extending her heartfelt gratitude and congratulations to all awardees, organizers, partners, esteemed guests, faculty members, and stakeholders whose collective efforts contributed to the success of the event.
BaSCโs 42nd Recognition Day is not only about honoring excellence and achievement but also as a powerful testament to the institutionโs continuing pursuit of academic excellence and its mission of nurturing future professionals, leaders, and changemakers who will contribute to the progress of Basilan and the nation as a whole.
