The attainment of university status by Basilan State College, now Basilan State University, marks a defining moment in the history of higher education in the province. As the institution grows, it remembers with deep respect that the opportunities it can now offer began with the work of those who made its establishment possible.
Building on these beginnings, the pursuit of universityhood gained institutional direction during the administration of ๐๐ซ. ๐๐๐ฌ๐ฌ๐๐ซ ๐. ๐๐๐ฅ๐๐ข๐ง, College President from 2010 to 2018 and Principal Initiator of University Conversion. The University gratefully recognizes his leadership in advancing the proposal and undertaking the groundwork necessary to bring it into the legislative process. These efforts provided a foundation for the work that succeeding leaders, personnel, and stakeholders continued.
As this aspiration advanced through legislation, ๐๐จ๐ง. ๐๐ฎ๐ฃ๐ข๐ฏ ๐. ๐๐๐ญ๐๐ฆ๐๐ง, then Representative of the Lone District of Basilan and Principal Author of House Bill No. 1581, carried the proposed conversion forward in Congress. The University expresses its deep appreciation for his authorship and advocacy, which helped translate an institutional goal into a legislative measure providing for the establishment of Basilan State University.
