LGU-Burgos taps Guidance Consultant for student counseling services

Amid reports of students’ misconduct happening in schools around the country, Mayor Kervin Francis Uy, through the LGU’s educational intervention program, hired a guidance consultant to accord counseling services to students in Burgos.

LGU-Burgos tapped Mrs. Girlie Ann Paltao-Baydal, RPm, SANHS alumna, to provide assessment and intervention activities to Burgoseño students, especially those needing support as recorded in schools’ guidance offices.

Paltao-Baydal recognizes the need for guidance services in schools especially with the prevalence of student-conduct issues that concern students, parents, and the school.

“The presence of a guidance counselor is important because students need someone who can listen, understand, and guide them through their academic, personal, and emotional challenges,” Baydal said.

The counseling services to be provided by Paltao-Baydal is eyed to give relief to students who need support; likewise, the intervention of a professional is seen by schools in Burgos as a light in the dark in bringing students to a brighter path.

THE RISERS UPDATE| Face-to-face classes at all levels, both public and private, in the Municipality of Burgos, Isabela, are suspended on Tuesday, August 4, 2026, due to the possible effects of Typhoon Luis. Residents are advised to prioritize their safety and continue monitoring official announcements from the local government. The suspension was announced by Municipal Mayor Kervin Francis Uy on Monday evening.

REGIONAL MONITORING OF SGC AND SBM

Burgos District welcomed the Regional Monitoring Team for the School Governance Council (SGC) and School-Based Management (SBM), reaffirming the school’s commitment to effective governance, collaborative leadership, and continuous quality improvement.

The monitoring was led by Ms. Marivic Somejo, Education Program Supervisor from the DepEd Regional Office, together with Mr. Emmanuel Roman Monterubio from the Schools Division Office of Isabela. During the activity, the team reviewed the school’s governance systems, validated pertinent documents, and engaged school personnel in discussions to assess the implementation of SGC and SBM initiatives.

The monitoring highlighted San Antonino National High School’s dedication to strengthening participatory governance and fostering a culture of accountability, transparency, and excellence in delivering quality education for every learner.

SANHS JOINS DIVISION-WIDE PROJECT TREETY, PROJECT COOL SCHOOL LAUNCH

San Antonino National High School took part in the simultaneous implementation of Project TreeTY: A Treaty for a Cause and the Division Launching of Project COOL School in compliance with Division Memorandum No. 321, s. 2026 issued by the Schools Division of Isabela.

The activity, held in observance of the National Disaster Resilience Month, highlighted the school’s commitment to environmental conservation, climate change mitigation, and disaster resilience through a tree-planting initiative involving school personnel and stakeholders.

The participation reflects SANHS’ continued support for DepEd’s environmental programs while promoting a greener, safer, and more resilient learning community.

Four simple letters.

For most students, it is just another word that rolls off the tongue without a second thought. But for Niño, reading those four letters feels like climbing a mountain. Every page of a book is a challenge, every English word is unfamiliar, and every classroom activity reminds him of the learning gaps he struggles to overcome.

He is one of the many students under the ARAL Program, an initiative that provides additional learning support to those who need it most. Although he attends school every day, he finds it difficult to read English words, solve basic mathematical operations, and understand what he reads. His poor reading comprehension often leaves him confused during discussions, making it difficult to keep pace with his classmates.

These struggles are not the result of laziness or a lack of determination. At home, he receives little academic guidance because his parents work long hours to provide for their family’s daily needs. Without enough support outside the classroom, the learning gaps continued to grow, affecting both his confidence and his academic performance.

Despite these challenges, he decided to take a leap.

Yet.

Again.

This year.

Just this month.

Through the ARAL Program, he will be given more time to learn, ask questions, and strengthen the skills he once lacked. Patient teachers will guide him through every lesson, encouraging him to keep trying even when reading a single sentence feels impossible. Slowly, the fear of making mistakes will be replaced by the courage to learn.

After all, education is not about who learns the fastest but about ensuring that every child is given the opportunity to succeed. The ARAL Program reminds us that every struggling learner deserves patience, understanding, and a chance to catch up. Behind every child who finds reading difficult is a story of perseverance waiting to be heard.

One day, the word "READ" will no longer be a source of fear for Niño. It will become a symbol of how determination, compassionate teachers, and meaningful educational programs can transform struggles into success.

Beyond the words on a page lies a brighter future—one that begins with a single opportunity to learn.
