On ๐๐ฎ๐ ๐ฎ๐ฌ๐ญ ๐๐, ๐๐๐๐, prior to the opening of classes, the ๐๐ซ๐๐ฌ๐๐ง๐ญ๐๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง ๐จ๐ ๐ญ๐ก๐ ๐๐จ๐ง๐ฌ๐ญ๐ข๐ญ๐ฎ๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง ๐๐ง๐ ๐๐ฒ-๐๐๐ฐ๐ฌ ๐๐ฅ๐๐๐ข๐ฌ๐๐ข๐ญ๐ marked another step toward the long-awaited formation of the official Civil Engineering student organization through PICE.
The gathering opened with remarks from the ๐๐๐๐ ๐จ๐ ๐ญ๐ก๐ ๐๐๐ฉ๐๐ซ๐ญ๐ฆ๐๐ง๐ญ ๐จ๐ ๐๐ข๐ฏ๐ข๐ฅ ๐๐ง๐ ๐ข๐ง๐๐๐ซ๐ข๐ง๐ , ๐๐ง๐ ๐ซ. ๐๐ฅ๐๐๐ซ๐ญ๐จ ๐. ๐๐๐ฌ๐๐ง๐, who welcomed the freshmen with encouragement, reminding them that choosing VSU Isabel and Civil Engineering was already a step toward a path worth pursuing. He urged them to carry that same determination through the years ahead, where becoming an engineer would demand more than what can be learned from books and calculations.
He left the students with a principle that perhaps carries further than the room itself, ๐๐๐ข๐ง๐ ๐ ๐ ๐จ๐จ๐ ๐๐ง๐ ๐ข๐ง๐๐๐ซ ๐ซ๐๐ช๐ฎ๐ข๐ซ๐๐ฌ ๐ง๐จ๐ญ ๐จ๐ง๐ฅ๐ฒ ๐ญ๐๐๐ก๐ง๐ข๐๐๐ฅ ๐ค๐ง๐จ๐ฐ๐ฅ๐๐๐ ๐ ๐๐ง๐ ๐๐จ๐ฆ๐ฉ๐๐ญ๐๐ง๐๐, ๐๐ฎ๐ญ ๐๐ก๐๐ซ๐๐๐ญ๐๐ซ. He further reminded them to remain honest even when others are not, to do what is right even when others will not, and to stand by what is right even when others cannot.
Following the opening, ๐๐ฌ. ๐๐จ๐ง๐ง๐ ๐๐ซ๐๐ฃ๐๐ซ ๐๐๐๐ฅ๐๐ซ๐๐ ๐ญ๐ก๐ ๐๐ฌ๐ฌ๐๐ฆ๐๐ฅ๐ฒ ๐ข๐ง ๐ช๐ฎ๐จ๐ซ๐ฎ๐ฆ after satisfactorily reaching the required number of participants. ๐๐ก๐ ๐๐ฑ๐๐๐ฎ๐ญ๐ข๐ฏ๐ ๐๐จ๐๐ซ๐ ๐๐ง๐ ๐ข๐ญ๐ฌ ๐ซ๐๐ฌ๐ฉ๐๐๐ญ๐ข๐ฏ๐ ๐๐จ๐ฆ๐ฆ๐ข๐ญ๐ญ๐๐๐ฌ ๐ฐ๐๐ซ๐ ๐ญ๐ก๐๐ง ๐๐จ๐ซ๐ฆ๐๐ฅ๐ฅ๐ฒ ๐ข๐ง๐ญ๐ซ๐จ๐๐ฎ๐๐๐, presenting the individuals entrusted with the organizationโs leadership, coordination, and various roles. The proposed activities and organizational matters were then presented for approval, followed by the discussion of the ๐๐จ๐ง๐ฌ๐ญ๐ข๐ญ๐ฎ๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง ๐๐ง๐ ๐๐ฒ-๐๐๐ฐ๐ฌ, the foundation that will define the organizationโs structure, responsibilities, rights, and the principles that will guide those who become part of it.
The assembly also saw changes within the organizationโs officers.
The vacant ๐
๐ข๐ซ๐ฌ๐ญ ๐๐๐๐ซ ๐๐๐ฉ๐ซ๐๐ฌ๐๐ง๐ญ๐๐ญ๐ข๐ฏ๐ position was filled by ๐
๐ซ๐๐ง๐๐ฒ ๐๐๐๐ฒ๐จ๐ง, while the ๐๐จ๐๐ซ๐ ๐จ๐ ๐๐ข๐ซ๐๐๐ญ๐จ๐ซ ๐จ๐ง ๐๐ฅ๐ญ๐๐ซ๐ง๐๐ญ๐ข๐ฏ๐ ๐๐๐ฎ๐๐๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง, previously held by ๐๐ซ๐ข๐ฌ๐ญ๐ข๐๐ง ๐๐๐ฏ๐๐ง ๐๐ฎ๐ญ๐จ๐ฒ, became vacant following his appointment as ๐๐ข๐๐ ๐๐ซ๐๐ฌ๐ข๐๐๐ง๐ญ ๐๐จ๐ซ ๐๐ฑ๐ญ๐๐ซ๐ง๐๐ฅ ๐๐๐๐๐ข๐ซ๐ฌ. The position was subsequently filled by ๐๐๐ฒ๐ ๐๐จ๐ฃ๐๐ฌ.
Then came the question of identity.
The proposed organizational logo, designed by ๐๐ซ. ๐๐๐ซ๐ค ๐๐๐ซ๐๐ฆ ๐๐๐ฆ๐๐ง, was presented after the assembly and put to a vote. ๐๐จ๐ ๐จ ๐ emerged as the chosen design, giving the organization its first visual mark, a symbol that may one day be recognized by people who were not even present when it was first chosen.
Closing remarks was delivered by ๐๐ง๐ ๐ซ. ๐๐ข๐ญ๐๐ก๐๐ฅ๐ฅ๐ ๐๐๐ง ๐. ๐๐จ๐ซ๐ข๐, who brought the gathering back to the weight behind what had been presented that day. The Constitution and By-Laws, he emphasized, are not merely words on paper, but the foundation upon which the organization will stand. Like a structure, no single member can carry the whole weight, every part has its purpose, and strength comes from how each part works with the others.
He reminded the newly onboarded students that engineering ultimately reaches beyond equations and structures. Behind every bridge, road, classroom, hospital, and shelter are people whose lives may be touched by what engineers choose to build. Before they are entrusted with constructing for others, they must first construct something within themselves, ๐ข๐ง๐ญ๐๐ ๐ซ๐ข๐ญ๐ฒ, ๐๐จ๐ฆ๐ฉ๐๐ฌ๐ฌ๐ข๐จ๐ง, ๐ก๐ฎ๐ฆ๐ข๐ฅ๐ข๐ญ๐ฒ, ๐๐ง๐ ๐ก๐จ๐ง๐จ๐ซ.
And perhaps that is where beginnings become important.
The people who laid the first foundations of this organization may eventually become names in old documents. The logo may become familiar. The Constitution and By-Laws may become something new members read without knowing the hands that first approved them. Officers will change, generations will pass, and the organization will become something larger than what it was on this day.
Yet somewhere beneath all of that will remain the choices made here.

And perhaps years from now, when another generation stands where these students once stood, they will never know exactly who carried the first weight.
They will only know that ๐ฌ๐จ๐ฆ๐๐จ๐ง๐ ๐๐ข๐.
