The Civil Engineering Department warmly celebrates an educator who has left a meaningful mark on the Civilyans he continues to teach and guide.

With patience, dedication, and a genuine commitment to his students, Engr. Barrientos goes beyond the classroom, always finding ways to guide future engineers through the challenges that come with their journey toward the profession.

The Department is grateful for the knowledge, guidance, and presence he continues to share with the Civil Engineering community.

Happy Birthday, Engr. Barrientos! May the years ahead bring more opportunities for teaching, learning, inspiring future engineers, and creating moments worth remembering. 🏗️

𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗙𝗶𝗿𝘀𝘁 𝗚𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗹 𝗔𝘀𝘀𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗹𝘆 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗖𝗶𝘃𝗶𝗹 𝗘𝗻𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗢𝗿𝗴𝗮𝗻𝗶𝘇𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻

A beginning is often defined by what comes after it. For the Civil Engineering Organization, the first General Assembly became one of those beginnings, bringing Civilyans together as the organization took its first steps.

𝐒𝐞𝐩𝐭𝐞𝐦𝐛𝐞𝐫 𝟏, 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟔, at 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐠𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐁𝐮𝐢𝐥𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐑𝐨𝐨𝐦 𝟐𝟎𝟑–𝟐𝟎𝟒, the assembly featured the presentation of the 𝐑𝐞𝐯𝐢𝐬𝐞𝐝 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐭𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐁𝐲-𝐋𝐚𝐰𝐬, 𝐀𝐧𝐧𝐮𝐚𝐥 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐤 𝐏𝐥𝐚𝐧, 𝐎𝐩𝐞𝐧 𝐅𝐨𝐫𝐮𝐦, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐈𝐧𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐂𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐦𝐨𝐧𝐲, giving members a closer look at the principles, plans, and responsibilities that will guide the organization moving forward.

The program also included an ice breaker, giving Civilyans a chance to interact and build connections beyond the formal discussions.

The assembly also marked an important step for the organization as its 𝐨𝐟𝐟𝐢𝐜𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐚𝐝𝐯𝐢𝐬𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐭𝐨𝐨𝐤 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐢𝐫 𝐨𝐚𝐭𝐡, officially assuming their roles as the 𝐂𝐢𝐯𝐢𝐥 𝐄𝐧𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐎𝐫𝐠𝐚𝐧𝐢𝐳𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐨𝐟𝐟𝐢𝐜𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐚𝐝𝐯𝐢𝐬𝐞𝐫𝐬. With their commitment comes the responsibility to serve, work together, and help build an organization founded on unity, respect, and accountability. These values reflect the reminder that no single member carries an organization alone, every part has a purpose in keeping it standing.

As the organization finds its footing, this moment leaves behind a foundation for the people who will carry its name, make their mark, and contribute to what it will become. The first assembly may open the chapter, but its meaning will live through the members who come after it.

The Civil Engineering Department warmly celebrates Engr. Eleujane Abarca and Engr. Cartleo Jay Delegencia as they celebrate another year of life. As newer members of the department, they have begun a meaningful journey as educators, sharing their knowledge, experiences, and dedication with the future Civil Engineers of VSU Isabel.

Though their journey with the department is still in its early chapters, their presence has already become part of the growing academic community, where every lesson shared and every student guided contributes to the development of Civilyans both as future engineers and as individuals.

The Department of Civil Engineering is grateful for their commitment to teaching and for the role they continue to take in supporting the learning journey of its students. May this special day bring them happiness, meaningful moments, and continued growth in the years ahead.

The Civil Engineering Department faculty, along with the Head of the Department of Civil Engineering (DCE), took part in the Seminar-Workshop on the Philippine Technological Council Certification and Accreditation System for Engineering Education (PTC-CASEE) in Preparation for Accreditation Reviews.

Through continuous learning and professional development, the faculty further strengthen the standards that guide the education and experiences of every Civilyan, building not only better engineers, but a stronger foundation for quality engineering education.

Department Head of Civil Engineering, Visayas State University Isabel

A pillar does not simply hold a structure, it gives it the strength to stand. In much the same way, 𝐄𝐧𝐠𝐫. 𝐏𝐚𝐬𝐚𝐧𝐚 has become one of the steady pillars of the Civil Engineering Department, carrying its direction with leadership, wisdom, and dedication.

His influence reaches beyond his position as Department Head, reflected in the encouragement he gives to students and in the standards he continues to uphold for the department. His presence has helped shape a learning environment where future engineers are encouraged not only to excel, but to become individuals worthy of the profession they pursue.

As another year is added to his journey, the Department of Civil Engineering celebrates not only the person behind the title, but 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐩𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐚𝐫 𝐰𝐡𝐨 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐮𝐞𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐡𝐞𝐥𝐩 𝐡𝐨𝐥𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐝𝐞𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐭𝐨𝐠𝐞𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐠𝐮𝐢𝐝𝐞 𝐢𝐭 𝐭𝐨𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐝 𝐠𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐡𝐞𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐬.

On 𝐀𝐮𝐠𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝟏𝟎, 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟔, prior to the opening of classes, the 𝐏𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐭𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐁𝐲-𝐋𝐚𝐰𝐬 𝐏𝐥𝐞𝐛𝐢𝐬𝐜𝐢𝐭𝐞 marked another step toward the long-awaited formation of the official Civil Engineering student organization through PICE.

The gathering opened with remarks from the 𝐇𝐞𝐚𝐝 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐃𝐞𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐂𝐢𝐯𝐢𝐥 𝐄𝐧𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠, 𝐄𝐧𝐠𝐫. 𝐀𝐥𝐛𝐞𝐫𝐭𝐨 𝐒. 𝐏𝐚𝐬𝐚𝐧𝐚, who welcomed the freshmen with encouragement, reminding them that choosing VSU Isabel and Civil Engineering was already a step toward a path worth pursuing. He urged them to carry that same determination through the years ahead, where becoming an engineer would demand more than what can be learned from books and calculations.

He left the students with a principle that perhaps carries further than the room itself, 𝐛𝐞𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚 𝐠𝐨𝐨𝐝 𝐞𝐧𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐞𝐫 𝐫𝐞𝐪𝐮𝐢𝐫𝐞𝐬 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐨𝐧𝐥𝐲 𝐭𝐞𝐜𝐡𝐧𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐤𝐧𝐨𝐰𝐥𝐞𝐝𝐠𝐞 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐞𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞, 𝐛𝐮𝐭 𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐞𝐫. He further reminded them to remain honest even when others are not, to do what is right even when others will not, and to stand by what is right even when others cannot.

Following the opening, 𝐌𝐬. 𝐁𝐨𝐧𝐧𝐚 𝐄𝐫𝐞𝐣𝐞𝐫 𝐝𝐞𝐜𝐥𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐚𝐬𝐬𝐞𝐦𝐛𝐥𝐲 𝐢𝐧 𝐪𝐮𝐨𝐫𝐮𝐦 after satisfactorily reaching the required number of participants. 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐄𝐱𝐞𝐜𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐁𝐨𝐚𝐫𝐝 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐢𝐭𝐬 𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐩𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐢𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐞𝐬 𝐰𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐧 𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐦𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐲 𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐫𝐨𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐞𝐝, presenting the individuals entrusted with the organization’s leadership, coordination, and various roles. The proposed activities and organizational matters were then presented for approval, followed by the discussion of the 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐭𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐁𝐲-𝐋𝐚𝐰𝐬, the foundation that will define the organization’s structure, responsibilities, rights, and the principles that will guide those who become part of it.

The assembly also saw changes within the organization’s officers.

The vacant 𝐅𝐢𝐫𝐬𝐭 𝐘𝐞𝐚𝐫 𝐑𝐞𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 position was filled by 𝐅𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐲 𝐀𝐛𝐚𝐲𝐨𝐧, while the 𝐁𝐨𝐚𝐫𝐝 𝐨𝐟 𝐃𝐢𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐨𝐫 𝐨𝐧 𝐀𝐥𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐄𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧, previously held by 𝐂𝐫𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐚𝐧 𝐑𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐧 𝐏𝐮𝐭𝐨𝐲, became vacant following his appointment as 𝐕𝐢𝐜𝐞 𝐏𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐄𝐱𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐀𝐟𝐟𝐚𝐢𝐫𝐬. The position was subsequently filled by 𝐊𝐚𝐲𝐞 𝐑𝐨𝐣𝐚𝐬.

Then came the question of identity.

The proposed organizational logo, designed by 𝐌𝐫. 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐤 𝐆𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐦 𝐌𝐞𝐦𝐚𝐧, was presented after the assembly and put to a vote. 𝐋𝐨𝐠𝐨 𝐁 emerged as the chosen design, giving the organization its first visual mark, a symbol that may one day be recognized by people who were not even present when it was first chosen.

Closing remarks was delivered by 𝐄𝐧𝐠𝐫. 𝐌𝐢𝐭𝐜𝐡𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐞 𝐈𝐚𝐧 𝐂. 𝐃𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐚, who brought the gathering back to the weight behind what had been presented that day. The Constitution and By-Laws, he emphasized, are not merely words on paper, but the foundation upon which the organization will stand. Like a structure, no single member can carry the whole weight, every part has its purpose, and strength comes from how each part works with the others.

He reminded the newly onboarded students that engineering ultimately reaches beyond equations and structures. Behind every bridge, road, classroom, hospital, and shelter are people whose lives may be touched by what engineers choose to build. Before they are entrusted with constructing for others, they must first construct something within themselves, 𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐠𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐲, 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐚𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧, 𝐡𝐮𝐦𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐡𝐨𝐧𝐨𝐫.

And perhaps that is where beginnings become important.

The people who laid the first foundations of this organization may eventually become names in old documents. The logo may become familiar. The Constitution and By-Laws may become something new members read without knowing the hands that first approved them. Officers will change, generations will pass, and the organization will become something larger than what it was on this day.

Yet somewhere beneath all of that will remain the choices made here.

𝐀 𝐟𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐝𝐨𝐞𝐬 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐚𝐬𝐤 𝐭𝐨 𝐛𝐞 𝐫𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐦𝐛𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐝. 𝐈𝐭 𝐬𝐢𝐦𝐩𝐥𝐲 𝐡𝐨𝐥𝐝𝐬 𝐰𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐬 𝐚𝐟𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐢𝐭.

And perhaps years from now, when another generation stands where these students once stood, they will never know exactly who carried the first weight.

They will only know that 𝐬𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐨𝐧𝐞 𝐝𝐢𝐝.

𝐄𝐲𝐞𝐬 𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞, 𝐂𝐢𝐯𝐢𝐥𝐲𝐚𝐧𝐬!👀

With the new academic year just around the corner, here is the program flow for the 𝐁𝐒𝐂𝐄 𝐒𝐭𝐮𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐎𝐧𝐛𝐨𝐚𝐫𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟔–𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟕 for continuing students. The program will cover important department matters, curriculum updates, organizational concerns, policies and other matters to help students get familiar with what lies ahead.

Also included in the afternoon program is the presentation of the 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐭𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐁𝐲-𝐋𝐚𝐰𝐬 for all BSCE students, providing an overview of the principles, provisions, and structure that will guide the organization moving forward.

Before then, don’t forget to read the 𝐎𝐧𝐛𝐨𝐚𝐫𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐆𝐮𝐢𝐝𝐞 and take note of the important details. 📌
