The journey to community health begins with a meaningful conversation.

Together with our fellow medical student assigned to the different communities of Ipil, Team Likas Makilas paid a courtesy call to the Rural Health Unit on June 29, 2026. The visit marked the beginning of a shared commitment to work alongside our local health partners, fostering collaboration and strengthening our collective efforts toward healthier communities.

As future physicians, we are grateful for the opportunity to learn from and work with the RHU as we begin our community immersion—because meaningful change starts with listening, partnership, and a shared purpose.

Round two—let the community exposure begin! 🙌

The first order of business? Courtesy calls ✔️, getting to reconnect with our community leaders, and rolling up our sleeves for the prioritization of identified health problems—because every meaningful intervention starts with listening to the community first.

Slowly but surely, we're finding our way back to the people, the stories, and the purpose that brought us here.

To our dearest team leader, Kiana Morgia, thank you for your unwavering patience, your calm heart, and your incredible leadership. Thank you for guiding us through every community exposure, reminding us of what needs to be done, answering our endless questions, and somehow keeping this loud, chaotic group together. We know we don't always make your job easy (actually... we probably make it harder 😭), but you never fail to show up with grace and understanding.

Thank you for being the leader of kaingayan in Makilas—the one who laughs with us, keeps us grounded, and somehow balances fun and responsibility all at once. Every "Mubalik na mi!" wouldn't be the same without you leading the way.
Behind all the jokes and noise, we truly admire your dedication and the effort you put into making sure our team grows together. You've made our days in Makilas lighter, our tasks less overwhelming, and our memories so much more meaningful.

After weeks of learning, serving, and creating meaningful connections, Likas Makilas is finally heading back to the community that became more than just our assigned area—it became a place we look forward to returning to.

Daghan pa mi'g kat-onon, daghan pa mi'g masugatan nga mga istorya, ug daghan pa gyud kaayong memories nga mabuhat uban kaninyo. What started as a community exposure became a reminder of why we chose this path in the first place.

To the people who welcomed us with warm smiles and open hearts, salamat kaayo. We can't wait to see familiar faces again, share more laughter, and continue learning from the community that has taught us lessons beyond the classroom.
