Principal: Mr. June Hayden Sinson It was thus called the Javalera Annex. Ramon Lorenzo. Roque O. Jose L.
The humble beginnings of Raja Soliman High School could be traced as far back as 1947. It all started as a quarter of a former Police Chief Lamberto Javalera. The building was used as the Annex Building of Jose Abad Santos High School when it was vacated in 1947 by the former chief of police. Sometime in 1952, the building was demolished to erect more classrooms that would accommodate the growing
enrolment of Jose Abad Santos High School. Through the Parent-Teacher Association Funds of Jose Abad Santos High School, four Quonset huts or portable structures were set up. Thus, it was later named as PTA Annex. Across the PTA Annex was another old Spanish building which was also used as Jose Abad Santos High School Annex where classes in biology were held. It was called as Biology Building. The place where it stood was once upon a time called Plaza La Chambre. Because the building was old, the City Engineer’s Office condemned the building and recommended demolition. After sometime, through the pork barrel fund of Congressman Roces, a new building was erected. This time, the building (La Chambre Compound) which first served as the library of Jose Abad Santos High School, and quonset huts (Javalera annex lots) were named as Roces Annex, in memory of his brother Rafael Roces. Together, it comprised the Roces-PTA Annex of Jose Abad Santos High School. In School Year 1961-1962, the student population of Jose Abad Santos High School grew too big to be under the administration of one Principal-Teacher, Mr. The Superintendent of City Schools of Manila recommended the separation of Roces-PTA Annex from the administration of Jose Abad Santos High School. On August 10, 1962, the separation of Roces-PTA Annex from Jose Abad Santos High School was formalized. Thus, administration was totally independent from Jose Abad Santos High School with Mr. Peralta, as the first appointed Principal. It did not take long for Roces-PTA to be renamed as Raja Soliman High School. This was done on December 8, 1962 by virtue of Executive Order No. 89. Mayor Antonio J. Villegas officially named the school as Raja Soliman High School in honor of the last Chief of Manila. As years passed, the quonset huts appeared “weather-beaten” and congested. Villegas through the Municipal Board Resolutions appropriated Two Million Thirty-two Thousand Five Hundred Pesos (Php 2,032,500.00) for the construction of the building. Its construction was inspired by the PTA President for ten consecutive years, Mr. Bienvinido Garcia. Other people who showed concerns for the construction of the building were Councilor Pablo Ocampo, Alfredo Gomez and Francisco Gatmaitan. The worked on the resolution outlaying the completion of the building. The East Wing of the Main Building was completed in 1963-1964; the North Wing in 1964-1965; while the South and West Wings were completed the following year. The Annex of the La Chambre Compound where classes in Technology & Livelihood Education (Home Economics / Vocational) were being held was finished in 1967 and was formally inaugurated on March 3, 1968, with Mayor Villegas cutting the ribbon. Fire gutted down the third floor of the Main Building on November 1, 1969. This was completely reconstructed on February 1971. The City of Manila spent Two Hundred Forty-nine Thousand Pesos (Php 249,000.00) for its reconstruction. Again in January 18, 1997, 2:00 p.m., Saturday, another fire gutted the third floor of the main building. About Thirty Million Pesos (Php 30,000,000.00) worth of properties were destroyed. Congressman Leonardo Fugoso pledged to earmark Four Million Five Hundred Thousand Pesos (Php 4,500,000.00) from his Countrywide Development Funds also known as pork barrel fund to immediately restore the third floor. RAJA SOLIMAN HIGH SCHOOL for years changed to better serve its clientele. Through Republic Act No. 8843, the school was renamed RAJA SOLIMAN SCIENCE & TECHNOLOGY HIGH School by the turn of the century. On March 28, 2007, the City of Manila headed by Hon. Atienza, Jr., City Mayor turned-over the new building to Dr. Ma. Luisa S. Quiñones, Schools Division Superintendent. Raja Soliman Science & Technology High School’s new location is in Urbiztondo St., San Nicolas District, Binondo, Manila. Raja Soliman Science and Technology High School is bounded by Urbiztondo St. in the North, Baraca St. in the East, Muelle dela Industria St. in the South, and Numancia St. in the West
Megaworld Corporation constructed two (2) four-storey buildings and four (4) cluster buildings to house both teaching and non-teaching personnel of Raja Soliman Science & Technology High School. The transfer was completed on May 2007 and by the opening of school year 2007-2008, on June 4, 2007 to be exact, the more than one hundred teaching and non-teaching personnel began serving its clientele in the new site.
