The Center for Language Learning and Research (CELLAR) marked a significant milestone in advancing scholarly discourse as two of its funded research projects were featured at the prestigious 8th Linguistic Society of the Philippines International Conference 2026, held from April 23โ25, 2026 at West Visayas State University in Iloilo City.
The first study, titled โWomen Representation in โThe World Masterpieces Literatureโ: A Feminist Stylistic Analysis of Selected Short Stories,โ was authored by Ms. Jodette F. Moron, Ms. Aira, Ms. Kristine D. Tanamor, Ms. Alecs D. Villanueva, Ms. Julie Ann P. Atienza, and Dr. Bernard S. Feranil. Presented on behalf of the research team by Ms. Julie Ann P. Atienza, the study offered a critical examination of how female characters are constructed in canonical literary texts.
Equally compelling was the second study, โDiscursive Constructions in Ecotourism and Conservation: A Multimodal CDA of Informational Materials on Philippine Protected Areas,โ authored by Ms. Alexia C. Balaba, Ms. Mary C. Cardeรฑo, Ms. Clarisse Vinci B. Javier, Ms. Mariz S. Baybay, and Dr. Bernard S. Feranil. Presented by Ms. Alexia C. Balaba, the research utilized multimodal Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA) to unpack how language, visuals, and design elements shape public understanding of ecotourism and environmental conservation in the Philippine context.
The participation of CELLAR researchers in this international platform not only strengthens the institutionโs academic visibility but also reinforces its role as a hub for innovative linguistic and discourse studies in the region.
