Hindi nasusukat ang pag-unlad ng isang bansa dahil sa mga imprastraktura o kita ng mga dayuhan na sumira sa kultura, kabuhayan, at katarungan ng mga katutubong mamamayan.

Ngayong ikasiyam ng Agosto, nakikitindig ang UPV Magnates sa mga katutubong Pilipino sa iba’t-ibang parte ng bansa ay ilan lamang sa mga biktima ng diskriminasyon, militarisasyon, at pagnanakaw sa kanilang mga lupang ninuno kung saan ang soberanya at katarungan ay patuloy na nagiging isyu. Naniniwala kami na hindi dapat binubuwis ang buhay ng mgaa mamamayan para sa “kaunlaran” ng ating bansa. Ang pagkakaroon ng progresibong bansa sa kabila ng pagnanakaw ng lupain, pasismo ng estado ng katutubong pamayanan, at komersiyalisasyon ng mga likas na yaman ay hindi dapat tinatangkilik sapagkat marami ang naging kapalit at isinakripisyo ng ating mga kapwa Pilipino.

Nananawagan kami bilang mga mag-aaral ng Unibersidad ng Pilipinas na mag-organisa, tumindig, at maging boses tayo ng ating mga katutubo laban sa bulok na patakaran ng gobyerno at dambuhalang negosyo at patuloy na isulong ang tunay na kaunlaran.

A so-called “boost” in economic progress that cost lives in the process is no progress at all— it’s a misery to the people, to the country.

UPV Magnates is in opposition with the development of this technological advancement in our country. We stand along with the people who worked hard to sustain the farm lands, maintain the clean waters and protect other natural resources not only to be exploited by foreign companies and semiconductors. Additionally, the implementation of these AI hubs lack transparency as its intentions and objectives are not clearly elaborated to us Filipinos when we are its supposed to be “beneficiaries”. Lastly, it hinders the country’s sovereignty as Pax Silica operates under U.S. law where we have little to no knowledge or say at all.

We demand for transparency and accountability regarding Pax Silica. We seek for more information and reconsideration as it is viewed more harmful than beneficial to our country.

Bilang mga iskolar ng bayan, naniniwala ang UPV Magnates na ang mabuting pamumuno ay hindi lamang nasusukat sa mga pangako kundi sa pananagutan, integridad, at paggalang sa Saligang Batas. Ang mga prinsipyong ito ang dapat maging pamantayan ng bawat lingkod-bayan, sapagkat ang bawat pondong pampubliko at bawat kapangyarihang ipinagkakatiwala ng mamamayan ay may kaakibat na pananagutan.

Bilang organisasyong naninindigan para sa responsableng pamumuno at mabuting pamamahala, inilalabas ng UPV Magnates ang opisyal nitong pahayag hinggil sa kasalukuyang usapin ng impeachment laban kay Vice President Sara Duterte.
