It has been more than a year since this pandemic started. We have all experienced the ups, the downs and the in-betweens of being cooped up in our houses. A lot has changed. Grocery shopping, family get-togethers, and even regular face to face classes.
Nowadays, we cannot deny the fact that Online Teaching has become more and more popular in recent years. Letโ€™s focus on Online English Teaching. It has been the trend for a decade now. It did not start overnight. There is an increasing demand for qualified English teachers around the world and in regions where physical study for English students is hard.
Going virtual is the most recent trend. Teachers, nowadays, can be found anywhere. And even when qualified teachers are hard to come by, there will always be teachers within us who can study and learn to become as qualified as can be.
A lot of teachers are going for the online teaching lifestyle. Not jus because of the Pandemic but also because of the rising trends. Online Teaching allows them to work on their own hours and from where they like. This leads to an overwhelming freedom that many want which may not be so accessible from the usual 9-to-5 work place.
However, as teaching English online is so in demand right now. It is also quickly expanding area in the of the TEFL/TESOL market. There is a prediction that yer 2020 and beyond ill see more demand in Online teaching rather than face-to-face classroom setting. Both students and teachers need to adapt their existing learning and teaching skills and knowledge to suit this specific area of the teaching world.

ESL Online actually works as the classes are structured to cover the four essential skills in language acquisition, which are:- speaking; listening; reading and writing.
It is up to the teachers to gauge the time spent on each discipline according students demands.

The teachers of abc360 are very much flexible in these 4 areas. We are proud to say that our teachers can fluidly shift from conversation to reading and writing at the drop of a hat.

Ahh English Language Learners (ELL). These students can struggle in class without the teacherโ€™s extra support. All ESL teachers simply adjust their teaching strategies to make these learners interested in class. A lot of thoughtful preparation and effort must be put, albeit not a tremendous amount to keep ELL students from becoming frustrated or unmotivated.

Let us think differentiation. This is a way for teachers to change their teaching strategies to help each student with different abilities and learning styles reach their learning potential. ELL students have language barriers which adds another challenge to their learning. They have to learn the content of their lesson the best way they could and in English to boot.
One benefit of differentiation is making the student feel comfortable to work at their own pace. The teacherโ€™s job is too challenge them but not too overwhelming that they might give up.
Using differentiation can also help with the feedback.Teachers can use trial and error to understand the needs of the students. By observing how students respond to instruction or how well they complete classwork, teachers can simply adjust and cater to what their students need. This way, your job as a teacher becomes easier and you can give the right amount of support the students need.

Each ELL student wants to feel that theyโ€™re important and intelligent and that their progress is well observed. The more support they have from their teachers, the more motivated they are to work harder and shine.

Help our students grow and mature in English. Come and be part of our teaching family!

One of the most basic things a teacher needs is to establish rapport with the students. When students feel comfortable in class, learning will come naturally.
Teachers know the English language and the theories of learning and teaching methodology. But what good would all of that be if you cannot get the interest of your students?

Rapport is simply the relationship you have with your student, how compatible you are with them. Being interested in your class is the most basic requirement for your students to be able to learn, so it goes without saying that you do everything in your power to keep them interested in your lessons.

Whether you are a beginner teacher or a seasoned instructor, you need to be compatible to your students to make them interested in learning. Thus, here are some techniques to build rapport.

1.Act confident till you are confident
Before the class, take a few deep breaths to relax yourself. Check your posture, body movements and facial expression all the time. Showing you are nervous in class is embarrassing.

2.Personal Information
Get to know your students personally. That way, you can make the topic relevant to your students. This is crucial in learning Not only will it help them remember the language, it can also make your lessons more effective.
This is a two-way street. This means you also need to let your students be familiar you. Volunteer information and tell them about our personal life as well. This way, your students become interested in you and you can find some common ground to talk about.

3. Balance everything
Teachers want their lessons to run smoothly. We control what happens in the classroom but most of that depends on the reactions of our students. As teachers, we need to balance out discipline and friendliness to our students. Be strict but not too strict and friendly but not too friendly. Believe or not, this makes the students feel comfortable in the class.

4. Show some respect
W know you are the teacher. But you can show respect to your students by learning their names and making sure you use them during the class. This will show the students that you thin of them as individuals. If your students can see that you respect them, they are more likely to respect you. This will show them that you want to listen to what they are trying to say.

5. Understand your students
Being fair to your students means treating them differently. This just means that you understand each of your students and you want them to have a great relationship with you.
With good rapport in class, your students learn more effectively. This will make sure class is much more enjoyable. Having a class with good rapport makes a great difference.Rapport is what will take you from being a mediocre teacher to being an an unforgettable one.

Do you have good rapport with your students? If you know another way to build rapport, let us know. Come and be part of our teaching family!

It's once more!

The name for a word we repeat too often is 'crutch'. These include words such as actually, basically, honestly, like, etc.

They add no value or meaning to a sentence.

The English language is a mystery. Teaching second language learners can be stressful and yet rewarding. And we have all established that making students talk can keep their interest in class.

But are you having a hard time staying in the target language?
Do your students forget English when they become nervous?
This is called code switching and it is very common. Do not get so upset, though. After all, even native speakers get stumped and speechless every now and then.

However, the goal is to avoid this code switching, and instead, switch their brains into target language mode. Here are some Doโ€™s and Donโ€™ts to sitch off or minimize studentsโ€™ struggle of using their โ€œnative language brainโ€ while keeping true to the Target Language.

Dos
1.Greet your students in the target Language. Introduce yourself. Students probably know you already it adds a little more context and familiar information each time.

2.Get to know your students. And let them be familiar with you, as well.

3.Use props and have a lot of interaction with your student. This makes the student feel that they should interact with you in the target language as well.

4.Assess your lesson material. The students might already know the basics so in comes your creativity.

5.Most of all, keep everything simple and fun. Too many difficult words is off-putting.

Donโ€™ts

1. Greet your students in their native language. It will set the tone that they can use another language other than the Target Language.

2.Use translations. This is good but this is strongly not recommended. Instead, use another vocabulary, hand gestures, or props for your student to understand you.

3.Choose words that have no relation to the the lesson. We, as teachers, know a lot of vocabulary but we also need to use the vocabulary appropriately.

4.Mix the target language and the native language. This has advantage at some point but it can also confuse the student especially when the become more advanced in speaking.

There are a lot of reasons why students might go back into using their native language. After all, itโ€™s safe, itโ€™s comfortable, itโ€™s familiar territory. But there are times that students could not find words in the Taget Language because they are too keyed up and excited with the topic under discussion. But one thing is for sure, we all love to talk.

Do you think you can guide your students with the Target Language? They need to be encouraged and motivated. Do you have this passion? Come and be part of our teaching family!
