Grade 11 Learners Find Wisdom at Asilo de Molo
Sitting beside the Grade 11 learners of Iloilo Scholastic Academy, resident Lolo Pablo offered a bright smile that broke the silence in the room, “Makita mo nga permi ako ga-smile, nakuha ko ang smile ko sa nanay ko kag hambal ya nga nami ngiti ko,” he said. (“If you always see me smiling, it’s because my smile belonged to my mother first, and she told me it was beautiful.”)
It was one of the many memorable moments during the Grade 11 outreach visit to Asilo de Molo last September 19, 2026. The learners spent the afternoon chatting with and getting to know the 28 elderly residents, several of whom live with physical disabilities, memory loss, or speech and hearing impairments. Although the visit began quietly, the room soon warmed up with conversations, laughter, and shared stories.
The afternoon began with a prayer led by Brent Andrei Limsui. Hosts Ricce Faye Ticao and Asher Benedict Perez then got the residents smiling with a lively ‘Hip Hip Hooray’ icebreaker followed by a trivia game hosted by Matthew Uy and a short video showcasing learner life at ISA.
Music and dance filled the rest of the program. Andrew Duya and Megan Ngo sang solos before teaming up with Asher Perez for a duet. Later on, Euphe Torres, Skye Fuentes, Zea Naldoza, and Ena Tiu performed popular Tiktok dances, drawing applause and multiple smiles from the audience.
“I realized just how precious life is,” Grade 11 learner Zea Marie Naldoza reflected afterward. “We should always treasure the things that bring us joy because when those moments are gone, the memories we made are what stay behind to remind us, to comfort us.”
By the time it had reached 3:30 PM, the learners packed up and boarded the van. The ride home was quieter as the batch carried with them more than memories of an afternoon of songs, games, and laughter—they left with a deeper appreciation for their elders and the stories they continue to carry.
