Five Department of Science and Technology (DOST) scholars and BS Applied Mathematics students successfully presented the highlights of their DOST Practical Training Program (PTP) experience during a presentation held on July 21, 2026, at the University Research and Development Center (URDC) Office.

Ryan Michael F. Oducado, PhD
Nursing Education

Dr. Ryan Michael F. Oducado is recognized for his outstanding contributions to nursing and public health. His work has significantly advanced nursing education in the Philippines while driving progress in healthcare workforce development, health literacy, and research capacity building. Dr. Oducadoโ€™s work also spans globally through studies addressing educational and health challenges, including LGBTQ+ health and education, incivility in nursing education, and the implications of generative artificial intelligence (AI) technologies for academic and research integrity. As a research leader and mentor, he has devoted his research to ensuring that future nurses are equipped with the competencies and adaptability needed to succeed in an increasingly complex and technology-driven educational and healthcare environment.

Dr. Oducado obtained his Bachelor of Science in Nursing from West Visayas State University. He later pursued his graduate studies, earning a Master of Arts in Nursing from Central Philippine University, a Master of Arts in Education from Northwestern Visayan Colleges, and a Doctor of Philosophy in Education from West Visayas State University.

The 10th Summer Research Capability Building Program officially commenced on June 22, 2026, bringing together faculty members, researchers, and research enthusiasts for a week-long learning experience aimed at strengthening research competencies and advancing a culture of research excellence.

The opening program featured a welcome message from Dr. Greta G. Gabinete, Vice President for Research, Innovation, and Extension, who emphasized the importance of continuous capacity building in enhancing the University's research productivity and impact.

The morning lecture series began with a discussion on the WVSU Research Agenda by Dr. Ryan Michael F. Oducado, followed by URDC Standard Operating Instructions presented by Ms. Ma. Theresa S. Minor. Participants also gained valuable insights into Ethical Considerations and Preparing Submission for Ethics Review through the lecture of Dr. Hilda C. Montaรฑo.

In the afternoon session, participants explored key approaches in research proposal development. Dr. Ayesha C. Penuela facilitated the session on Preparing Qualitative Proposals, while Dr. Aris C. Larroder discussed essential concepts and strategies in Preparing Quantitative Proposals.

The first day of the program provided participants with a strong foundation in research planning, ethics, and proposal preparation, setting the stage for the succeeding sessions throughout the week.
