📜 Why You Need to Know About Safe Online Dating?
🔑Remember "ligaw," the traditional Filipino courtship (Cambay et al., 2017) filled with family introductions, kilig moments, and commitment talks? These days, there's a new player in the game: online dating! While it's super convenient (hello, swiping right!), it's important to remember that not everyone online is there for "Ikaw at Ako" forever.
Filipino youngsters are using online dating more for exploring and having fun, which is cool! But being new to the scene can also mean being more vulnerable to online risks (Merza & Cortez Jr, 2024). Think "harassment" and "drama" – not exactly the kind of "kilig" you're looking for, right?
This shift highlights the need for safety education, particularly for teenagers and young adults who may be subject to the "online nasties"👁👄👁
Our project is about empowering young Filipinos to navigate online dating safely and confidently with a heart. We'll be talking about what laws and measures are there, the risks of online dating, and more; basically be a dating pro (without the heartbreak!)
Here are some pointers you need to look out for:

While convenient for finding partners beyond your area, online dating comes with privacy and safety risks. Despite the risks, Filipinos see online dating as a way to explore relationships (43%) and find committed partners (53%) (Abad’s, 2022). Are you one of those who took the risk para sa love, exploration, or whatnot?
