FEBRUARY 11 — EVELIO JAVIER DAY

Today, we honor Evelio “Evie” Javier, an Ilonggo leader and former governor of Antique, whose courage and unwavering stand for clean governance during the Martial Law era made him a lasting symbol of integrity and sacrifice.

His assassination in 1986 ignited public outrage and strengthened the nationwide call for justice and democratic reform. This local holiday reminds us that true leadership is rooted in honesty, bravery, and service to the people.

🕊️ We remember. We honor. We uphold his legacy.

📜 Republic Act No. 7601 (June 3, 1992):
“In order to commemorate the death anniversary of the late Governor Evelio B. Javier, February Eleven of each year is hereby declared Governor Evelio B. Javier Day, a special nonworking public holiday in the Provinces of Antique, Capiz, Aklan and Iloilo.”
