SUSPENSION OF FACE-TO-FACE CLASSES IN ILOILO CITY FROM PRE-SCHOOL TO SENIOR HIGH, BOTH PUBLIC AND PRIVATE SCHOOLS
August 10, 2026
*Shift to online, asynchronous, or modular learning modes
Based on the assessment of the Iloilo City Operations Center and available weather data for August 10, a city-wide suspension of classes is not recommended at this time; however, shifting from face-to-face classes to online, asynchronous, or modular learning modes is highly encouraged for Pre-School to Senior High School (SHS), particularly in flood-prone and highly vulnerable areas.
Weather forecasts indicate overcast skies with intermittent to occasional light-to-moderate to at times heavy rain showers and localized thunderstorms throughout the day.
Daily cumulative rainfall is expected to reach 15 to 25mm, peaking between 10:00 AM and 5:00 PM (1.5 to 5.2 mm/hr), accompanied by moderate-to-strong southwesterly winds ranging from 20 to 50 km/h.
Weather forecasts indicate overcast skies with intermittent to occasional light-to-moderate at times heavy rain showers and localized thunderstorms throughout the day, with total rainfall accumulations reaching 15 to 25 mm.
The strongest precipitation is expected between 10:00 AM and 5:00 PM (1.5 to5.2 mm/hr), accompanied by moderate-to-strong southwesterly winds ranging from 20 to 50 km/h and heat index values reaching 34Β°C to 40Β°C (Extreme Caution).
These meteorological conditions do not trigger automatic cancellation thresholds under national disaster guidelines, however, several low-lying barangays remain flooded due to persistent rains, presenting hazards from slippery roads, route obstructions due to the recent hazard events, and an increased risk of waterborne diseases.
Consequently, the combination of ongoing precipitation, gusty winds, and lingering flooding risks encourages adopting flexible learning arrangements to ensure overall public and student safety.
The Iloilo City Operations Center highly encourages shifting to ADM from pre-school to Senior High School.
