Today we commemorate the feast day of the highly revered Nuestra Senora dela Candelaria also known as Our Lady of Candles, the patroness of Western Visayas and Jaro, Iloilo.

Devotees not only from the City of Love but also coming from the different corners of the world, flock to Jaro in order to visit the miraculous Blessed Virgin atop her shrine, attend masses, and light candles in her honor.

Catholic devotees believe that lighting "perdon" candles offered to the Nuestra Señora de la Candelaria make miracles through answered prayers.

May this cultural and religious celebration unites every Ilonggo regardless of the district we are from, and strengthen our relationship and faith in God.

Today is December 30, 2022, the day when we celebrate the life and works of José Rizal, the national hero of our country Philippines. Rizal Day is a national holiday celebrated on December 30, the day of Rizal’s ex*****on in 1896 at Bagumbayan, Manila. Rizal Day was officially declared a national holiday on February 1, 1902.

President Elpidio Quirino signed Republic Act No. 229 on June 9, 1948, into law to ensure the formality of the event. The law prohibits cockfighting, horse racing, and jai-alai every 30th day of December and demands the raising of the Philippine flag at half mast in all vessels and public buildings.

Rizal was known for his patriotic qualities, excellency, and literaries; Noli Me Tangere and El FIlibusterismo for instance. An intelligent and altruistic hero of Philippine history.

Let us not disappoint our national hero and prove his belief that we are the hope of our nation! Commemorating and continuing his legacy is our duty as youth.

José Rizal’s works and hardships shall not be wasted!

Filipino Catholics have a strong devotion to Mary, Mother of God. One of the manifestations of which is when upon the request of the bishops of the Philippines, Pope Pius XII declared Mary, under the title of the Immaculate Conception, as the Patroness of the Philippines on September 12, 1942.

"We have recourse to your protection, O holy Mother of God.
As we recite the words of this antiphon
with which the Church of Christ has prayed for centuries,
we find ourselves today before you, our Immaculate Mother.
We, who make up the Body of Christ present in our land,
recite the words of this Act of Consecration
and Entrustment, in which we gather, first of all,
the hopes and anxieties of our Filipino people,
at this moment of our history.
Mother of our people, we rejoice in the name,
Pueblo amante de Maria, a people who love Mary,

Do you still remember Andres Bonifacio?

Andres Bonifacio is one of the country's national heroes. As he spearheaded the establishment of a secret revolutionary movement in 1892 which is "Katipunan", he was then named as the "Father of Philippine Revolution" and/or "Ama ng Katipunan".

He led Katipuneros, inspired many Filipinos and groups to launch a nationwide campaign to overthrow the Spanish colonizers. After years of being a Katipunan officer, in 1895, Bonifacio emerged as its "Supremo" (Supreme Leader).

His leadership abilities provoked Filipinos' minds against Spanish governance. Still in continuity of Dr. Rizal, his hero and mentor's peaceful revolutions. Wherein, in 1896 he declared the Philippine independence in the wake of Rizal's ex*****on.

Andres was an avid reader, he read all of Rizal’s writings as well as the Bible and History of the French Revolution. Some also consider him a better writer than Rizal.
