𝐋𝐎𝐎𝐊:The Philippine Coast Guard District Western Visayas (CGDWV) conducted a joint Graduation and Convening Ceremony for the Pre-Departure Inspection Training (PDIT), held from 11 to 14 August 2026, with a total of 49 personnel participants, and the Vessel Safety Enforcement Inspection Training (VSEIT), scheduled from 17 to 20 August 2026, with a total of 52 personnel participants. The ceremony and training activities were held at Headquarters Coast Guard District Western Visayas (HCGDWV), Zone II, Bo. Obrero, Lapuz, Iloilo City.

The training brought together designated personnel from CGDWV and various Coast Guard Stations in Western Visayas to enhance their knowledge and competencies in conducting pre-departure inspections and vessel safety enforcement inspections. The Maritime Safety Services Unit–Western Visayas (MSSU-WV) served as the training instructors, providing participants with relevant guidance and practical knowledge on proper inspection procedures and maritime safety requirements.

The conduct of these trainings underscores the PCG’s commitment to strengthening the capabilities of its personnel and ensuring the effective implementation of maritime safety measures, ultimately contributing to safer maritime transportation and the protection of lives at sea.

Students of the Coast Guard Radio Operations and Maintenance Specialization Course (CGROMSC) "COASTWAVE" Class 27-2026 recently completed a hands-on exercise setting up an independent, 1-kilowatt solar power system.

This activity allowed students to translate their classroom learning into a real working setup. By assembling essential components like solar panels, battery banks, and safety switches, the trainees gained practical experience in generating and distributing solar energy.

Through this exercise, students learned how to:

• Identify and connect the main parts of a solar power system.
• Wire electrical circuits safely and accurately.
• Use batteries to store energy for remote operations.
• Troubleshoot and maintain basic solar equipment.
• Enforce strict electrical safety protocols.

This competency-based training ensures that our personnel can establish reliable power sources in remote areas or during emergencies where standard electricity is unavailable. It directly supports the mission readiness and operational capabilities of the Philippine Coast Guard.

𝐋𝐎𝐎𝐊: The Philippine Coast Guard District Western Visayas (CGDWV) conducted an ICARE initiative on 10 August 2026 in Carles, Iloilo, bringing together various Coast Guard units and community partners in support of environmental protection and community welfare of Carles.

The activity featured a coastal clean-up, mangrove planting, feeding program, and lectures on water safety and proper waste management. Through these initiatives, the Philippine Coast Guard promoted environmental stewardship, strengthened community awareness, and encouraged responsible practices toward a safer and cleaner coastal community.

The successful conduct of the activity was made possible through the collaborative efforts of Coast Guard Station Iloilo, Coast Guard Sub-Station Carles, Special Operations Group-Western Visayas (SOG-WV), Marine Environmental Protection Group-Western Visayas (MEPG-WV), DCDS for CRS (D-7), Civil Relations Group Western Visayas (CRG-WV), Coast Guard Auxiliary District Western Visayas (CGAD-WV), and the 615th Coast Guard Auxiliary Squadron.

𝐋𝐎𝐎𝐊: The Philippine Coast Guard District Western Visayas (CGDWV), in coordination with the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Carles headed by Municipal Mayor Hon. Arnold Betita II, conducted a Philippine Coast Guard Auxiliary (PCGA) Indoctrination on 10 August 2026 in Carles, Iloilo.

The activity was presided over by Captain Crisanto A Anas PCG, Commander, Special Operations Group Western Visayas. It was successfully conducted through the commendable initiative of the Coast Guard Auxiliary District Western Visayas, the CG Auxiliary Education, Training and Doctrine Support Service Director, Auxiliary Commodore Asuncion Lucero PCGA, Director, in collaboration with Coast Guard Station Iloilo, Coast Guard Sub-Station Carles, the Deputy Chief of Coast Guard Staff for Civil Relations Service, D-7, and the Civil Relations Group – Western Visayas (CRG-WV).

The activity aimed to facilitate the reactivation of the 615th Coast Guard Auxiliary Squadron in the productive municipality of Carles, where the sea serves as a lifeline for many local residents whose livelihoods and daily activities are closely connected to the maritime environment.

Through the reactivation of the squadron, the PCG and PCGA seek to strengthen their partnership with the local community and enhance the delivery of maritime safety, security, environmental protection, and other related services to the people of Carles.

The Senate has approved Senate Bill No. 2116, otherwise known as the “Revised Philippine Coast Guard Law,” on Third Reading, with 19 affirmative votes and 0 abstentions.

This significant legislative milestone marks another step toward strengthening the Philippine Coast Guard’s mandate, organization capabilities, and institutional framework, enabling the Organization to become more capable, responsive, and prepared to fulfill its crucial roles in maritime safety, maritime security, law enforcement, marine environmental protection, and the protection of our maritime interests.

The passage of SB No. 2116 on Third Reading reflects the strong support of the Senate for the continued development and institutional strengthening of the Philippine Coast Guard.

One step closer to a stronger, more capable, and future-ready Philippine Coast Guard.

𝐋𝐎𝐎𝐊: Personnel of the Philippine Coast Guard District Western Visayas (CGDWV) participated in an Information Drive conducted by the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth), in coordination with Medicus Health and Wellness Center (Medicus Diagnostic Center and Medical Clinics) at Headquarters CGDWV, Zone II, Bo. Obrero, Lapuz, Iloilo City.

The activity aimed to enhance the participants’ awareness and understanding of PhilHealth membership, benefits, premium contributions, benefit availment procedures, recent policy updates, and other relevant programs and services, including the YAKAP program.

Through this initiative, CGDWV personnel gained valuable information on accessing PhilHealth services and maximizing the healthcare benefits available to them.
