Homecoming Exhibits 2026: UPV Art Beyond Walls
Last July, UPV Office of Alumni Relations (OAR) opened “Homecoming Exhibits 2026" at the UPV Handumanan-Old High School (OHS) building. This featured two main collections, framed works, “The Chancellors” and “Handumanan: Revisiting the Past, Recreating Memories”, and a mural, the Oblation trompe l'oeil.
The Oblation trompe l'oeil, located at the building’s lobby, is open for the alumni to take photos with. Trompe l'oeil art is a technique where realistic visuals are used to create a three-dimensional optical illusion on a flat surface. This art is often seen in murals, street art, classic architecture, and modern interactive museums.
The Oblation trompe l'oeil, executed by D&D Creations, is a gift from Mr. Francisco G. Villanueva (HS 1965, UPIC), taken from the Php35,000.00 proceeds from sales of his book “Bugasong to Barcelona: Life & Works of Felix Laureano,” launched during UPV Homecoming 2025.
This year, the alumni got to experience the 3D art and share it through their social media accounts with the hashtag "upvartbeyondwalls". In the spirit of giving back, they were able to raise Php8,050.00 for their unique interactive experience with the art piece. This collective gift was then able to produce one wooden bench in the amount of Php4,500. It now accompanies the mural for a better experience.
More gifts have been received for the Handumanan - OHS Building including another bench from Ms. Jollylyn Lagrosa-Pasaporte (HS 1988, BS Management 1992, UPV), and six floor fans from Mr. Martin Earl D. Baliao (HS 2008, BA History-Literature 2013, UPV).
But the Handuman - OHS Building still has a long way to go to be complete. Your support is very much welcome.
