The Department of Biology under the College of Arts and Sciences conducted an orientation this August 3, 2026, at the Iloilo Doctors' College of Dentistry Gymnasium.
The event started with a notable message from the Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, Dr. Janice L. Amarante, discussing the school policies and guidelines to maintain inside the campus and highlighting the core values of being a true IDCIAN. Furthermore, in her speech, she also inspired young biologists on the podium to think outside the box as the world needs them. She also emphasized the significance of biology in our daily lives.

Following the welcome address, a video presentation providing an overview of the BS Biology Program was shown, giving the students an introduction to the program and what they can expect throughout their journey as Biology students.
Meanwhile, on behalf of the head of the Biology Program, Prof. Ma. Ardelia Bagona, the department warmly welcomes all the bio students, especially the freshmen, as they navigate the world of microscopes and the path of becoming future scientists, researchers, and doctors.
Dr. Amarante further introduced the faculty and staff of the Iloilo Doctors' College under the Department of Biology while mentioning their expertise towards each discipline in the field of biology. Moreover, Dr. Amarante proclaimed the new set of officers of the BIOPHILIA, which was introduced under their Adviser, Lean S. Segura.
Afterwards, the Vice President, Althea P. Jantican, and Secretary, Randel Marc Capambi, of the said organization discussed the organizationโs Constitution and By-Laws.
Addressing transparency directly, the BIOPHILIA Auditor, Anarose M. Pandacan along with BIOPHILIA Treasurer, Aqua Marie Rubio, presented the organization's budget breakdown for A.Y. 2025โ2026, while President, Angel Lorraine Anne M. Tipo, shared the upcoming calendar of activities.
Following this, the three first-year representatives also shared their expectations as freshmen, to which the ASSC officers provided their responses, addressing their concerns and expectations for the academic year.
Lastly, to ensure first-year students transition smoothly, former Auditor, Antonneth M. Batisla-ong, presented the new buddy system initiative to help freshies interact with their seniors if ever there is a problem or concern with regards to their academic experience. To formally conclude the event, Biophilia Co-Adviser Ma. Gloria Hisugan delivered the closing remarks, leaving the students with an encouraging message as they begin another academic year.
The event was held successfully, marking a great start for everyone in this school year 2026โ2027.
