Today marks the 𝟰𝟬𝘁𝗵 𝗮𝗻𝗻𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗮𝗿𝘆 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗘𝗗𝗦𝗔 𝗣𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗹𝗲 𝗣𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿 𝗥𝗲𝘃𝗼𝗹𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻, a pivotal moment in Philippine history that showcased the power of 𝑝𝑒𝑎𝑐𝑒𝑓𝑢𝑙, 𝑐𝑜𝑙𝑙𝑒𝑐𝑡𝑖𝑣𝑒 𝑎𝑐𝑡𝑖𝑜𝑛. It remains a global symbol of how 𝑐𝑜𝑢𝑟𝑎𝑔𝑒 𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝑢𝑛𝑖𝑡𝑦 can change the course of a nation.

𝐹𝑜𝑢𝑟 𝑑𝑒𝑐𝑎𝑑𝑒𝑠 𝑙𝑎𝑡𝑒𝑟, the "𝑺𝒑𝒊𝒓𝒊𝒕 𝒐𝒇 𝑬𝑫𝑺𝑨" serves as more than just a history lesson. It is a reminder of the 𝑟𝑒𝑠𝑝𝑜𝑛𝑠𝑖𝑏𝑖𝑙𝑖𝑡𝑖𝑒𝑠 𝑡ℎ𝑎𝑡 𝑐𝑜𝑚𝑒 𝑤𝑖𝑡ℎ 𝑓𝑟𝑒𝑒𝑑𝑜𝑚. Commemorating this day isn't just about looking back at 1986; it’s about examining how those values of 𝑗𝑢𝑠𝑡𝑖𝑐𝑒, 𝑡𝑟𝑢𝑡ℎ, 𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝑐𝑖𝑣𝑖𝑐 𝑒𝑛𝑔𝑎𝑔𝑒𝑚𝑒𝑛𝑡 𝑎𝑟𝑒 𝑏𝑒𝑖𝑛𝑔 𝑙𝑖𝑣𝑒𝑑 𝑜𝑢𝑡 𝑡𝑜𝑑𝑎𝑦.

It is a solemn reminder of human mortality and the need for reconciliation with God and marks the beginning of the penitential Lenten season. It is commonly observed with the distribution of ashes and with fasting.

Channeling their inner directed leadership, student leaders from Colegio del Sagrado Corazon de Jesus joined the TOSIA TALKS 2026 at JBLFMU - Arevalo Campus. With the theme, 𝑩𝒆𝒚𝒐𝒏𝒅 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝑪𝒍𝒐𝒖𝒕: 𝑭𝒐𝒓𝒈𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝑰𝒍𝒐𝒏𝒈𝒈𝒐 𝑳𝒆𝒂𝒅𝒆𝒓𝒔 𝒂𝒔 𝑳𝒖𝒎𝒊𝒏𝒂𝒓𝒊𝒆𝒔 𝒐𝒇 𝑯𝒐𝒑𝒆.

Held last February 1, 2026, the said event was organized by the Junior Chamber International Regatta (JCI REGATTA), an organization that empowers young Ilonggo leaders to create a positive change to society, and the chapter behind the THE OUTSTANDING STUDENTS of ILOILO AWARDS (TOSIA).

Furthermore, the three TOSIA alumni from the different batches of TOSIA circle shares their own experiences and inspires the youth with stories of how voices could make an impact in the society. With each speaker tackles the different aspects of life.

Atty. Gilda Rodenas (TOSIA 2019) focuses on faith and self-affirmation as the foundation of hope for change. Atty. Rodinas encourage everyone to "Dream big and to trust God and its process despite challenging circumstances"

Meanwhile, Ms. Jennifer Erika Angeles (TOSIA 2024) shared the values needed as young leaders, thereby emphasizing the importance of integrity, principle, and empowering people as pillars of leadership. Furthermore, Ms. Jen notes that, the essence of true leadership is not measured by the power and its popularity alone, but through the impact. As "It is okay to walk away from the path that compromises your values as the idea of losing yourself hurts more than losing opportunities".

Lastly, 2/M Elijah Jose Barrios (TOSIA 2015) discussed the importance of self-awareness and balance in leadership. He emphasized the concept of knowing the core of oneself as an essential aspect of self in leadership. As understanding one's core helps a person overcome the challenges of life. He also discussed that "Passion is not a desire or want, but a mobile that drives a person to move forward. Pain moves passion."

The overall event underscores the importance of FAITH, INTEGRITY, AND SELF-AWARENESS as components of leadership. To serve and to make positive impact, and not just in clout.
