In the aftermath of the magnitude 7.8 earthquake that struck Southern Mindanao on June 8, 2026, the WVSU University Student Council stands in solidarity with the affected communities in Sarangani Province, General Santos City, and surrounding areas.

As of June 11, 2026, the disaster has affected more than 75,000 families. Thousands of homes and critical infrastructure have been damaged or destroyed, leaving many communities in urgent need of assistance. Beyond the figures are families in need of food, shelter, and immediate relief as they begin the process of recovery.

Celebrating our independence means recognizing that freedom is an ongoing journey, not a finished destination. It is a continuous promise we must protect, nurture, and serve every single day.

𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐣𝐞𝐜𝐭 𝐒𝐄𝐍𝐒𝐄, an advocacy event under the Mindshift Initiative centered on the theme “𝐒𝐞𝐞𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐄𝐱𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐍𝐨𝐭 𝐉𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝐒𝐲𝐦𝐩𝐭𝐨𝐦𝐬," successfully concluded on June 11, 2026, at Robinsons Place Jaro, Iloilo City. The initiative successfully raised awareness about schizophrenia, challenged societal misconceptions, and fostered a compassionate community response.

In line with this mission, the College of Communication Student Council participated in the event, standing in solidarity with efforts to champion mental health awareness and break the stigma surrounding schizophrenia.

We extend our gratitude to the Mindshift Initiative for inspiring student leaders to advocate for a more compassionate community.
