The Division of Entertainment and Multimedia Computing of the College of Information and Communication Technology conducted a situational analysis in Tubungan Local Government Unit last August 2, 2024. This activity aims to:

1. assess their current capacity in terms of technical skills, design skills and production resources for all gender;
2. identify knowledge gaps in terms of IEC best practices and campaign development and management;
3. explore challenges and needs in terms of internal processes and collaboration and coordination;
4. identify the specific training needs based on skill and knowledge gaps to develop more effective workshops;
5. determine the LGUs' existing methods for evaluating the effectiveness of their IEC materials in achieving campaign goals.

The activity was participated by the different agencies/units of Tubungan LGU. Vice Mayor Leo Cezar Taypen and SB Members made a warm welcome to our faculty who conducted the said event. Dr. Lea Gabawa, the CICT GAD Coordinator, discussed gender-related topics, women's empowerment initiatives, addressing gender-based community issues, gender-fair language, and incorporating gender-fair principles into IEC materials. Dr. Evan Sumido, chair of the Division of Entertainment and Multimedia Computing, emphasized the significance of creating effective IEC materials for local governments. A focus group discussion and survey were conducted with the assistance of Dr. Lea Gabawa and Ms. Janine Defante.

Conducting Needs Assessment on the LGUs capability in Developing IEC Materials as a Tool for Public Awareness, Education and Community Engagement can be used to evaluate their existing skills in writing clear, concise, and target-audience-appropriate content for IEC materials. This activity evaluates the LGUs' understanding of current best practices in IEC development, including audience analysis, message framing, and communication channels. This can help identify the specific training needs of LGU personnel based on skill and knowledge gaps to develop more effective workshops. It will also determine the LGUs' existing methods for evaluating the effectiveness of their IEC materials in achieving campaign goals.
