The Vice President for Research and Innovation together with the Center for Advanced New Materials, Engineering, and Emerging Technologies (CANMEET), and the College of Technology (COT) hosted Dr. DJ Donn C. Matienzo, DOST PCIEERD Balik-Scientist, who discussed a seminar titled “Clean Energy Era: Energy Storage from Research to Reality” on March 5, 2026, at the 2nd Floor Conference Room, CPMT Building, University of San Agustin, Iloilo City.

In a world reliant on non-renewable, fossil-fuel-based living, Dr. Matienzo uncovers the era of sustainable, green, and clean energy. From the creation of cells to modules to systems, Dr. Matienzo also shared insights into his startups and the framework of effective commercialization. Showcasing how accessible clean energy is to Filipinos and the nation.

| The University of San Agustin formally inaugurated and blessed the Ardiente–Mijares Laboratory, an extension of the Center for Advanced New Materials, Energy, and Environmental Technologies (CANMEET), on March 4, 2026, at Blanco Hall.

We are pleased to share that our latest research publication, “Synthesis and Characterization of Maguey (𝘈𝘨𝘢𝘷𝘦 𝘤𝘢𝘯𝘵𝘢𝘭𝘢) Nano-Modified Bioplastic”, is now available online in a high-impact journal under Polymers (MDPI).

Our study focuses on the potential of regenerated Maguey (𝘈𝘨𝘢𝘷𝘦 𝘤𝘢𝘯𝘵𝘢𝘭𝘢) as a renewable material to create nano-enabled bioplastic films with mechanical and barrier properties for sustainable packaging.

𝗨𝗦𝗔‑𝗖𝗔𝗡𝗠𝗘𝗘𝗧 hosted the 𝟮𝗻𝗱 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗦𝘆𝗺𝗽𝗼𝘀𝗶𝘂𝗺 𝗼𝗻 𝗦𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗡𝗮𝗻𝗼𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗮𝗹𝘀 𝗔𝗱𝗱𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗘𝗻𝘃𝗶𝗿𝗼𝗻𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗲𝘀 (𝗜𝗦𝗦𝗡𝗔𝗘𝗖) on October 24 at the 7th floor, Conference Hall, College of Pharmacy and Medical Technology Building, drawing 11 international and local experts to the University of San Agustin to present the latest in sustainable nanomaterials. 🌱

Panels from across the globe explored nanomaterial synthesis and development, energy and water/wastewater solutions, and the intersection of bionanomaterials with artificial intelligence for applications in environmental challenges.

The symposium strengthened regional ties through the Western Visayas Consortium for Industry, Energy, and Emerging Technology Research and Development (WVCIEERD) and was held alongside the 27th SPVM National Physics Conference co‑organized with MSU‑IIT, widening participation from scientists and educators. 🤝

Building on the Hub for Sustainable Smart Nanomaterials launched in July 2023, the event reinforced USA‑CANMEET’s role as the region’s lead center for materials science and nanotechnology and boosted the university’s international research profile.
